These are my 2 new favourites. What does everyone think? How would you pronounce Thalia?

SugarMiceInTheRain · 19/01/2018 10:05

Thalia definitely (pronounced TAH-lee-a)

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 19/01/2018 10:06

I have a friend with a Thalia...we say "Ta-lee-ah"

But you might find some (weirdos) say THA-lee-ah...sounding the TH...like Thursday.

I like Cadence better.

FannyTheFlamingo · 19/01/2018 10:35

I just looked on Nameberry and it uses the Th sound, which I thought was weird. Other websites use Ta or Tah.

As a cyclist, I find Cadence bizarre to use as a name. Like Talia/Thalia.

teaandakitkat · 19/01/2018 10:41

I would be tempted to pronounce Thalia with a Th if I saw it written down. I know a Talia so would assume you had specifically chosen the Th sound. And it reminds me of the Indian thali set meal.

Cadence is lovely, Juliet's baby in Nashville is called Cadence. (One of my all time favourite tv shows)

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 19/01/2018 11:17

Thalia is lovely. I would definitely pronounce it Ta-lee-a.

Cadence reminds me of one of the characters in one of the American Pie sequels Confused. I swear I have better taste in films than that usually! But this has really stuck with me, due to the way Alison Hannigan says it in a stupid baby voice, (which she used the whole way through the damn film).

MalcomTuckerInSpace · 19/01/2018 11:20

Cadence is a princess in My Little Pony. Though your child may think that’s a good thing, mine would.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/01/2018 11:29

Thalia pn Tally-er. Really don't Cadence sounds like an infectious disease

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/01/2018 13:23

Thalia

ElderflowerWaterIsDelish · 19/01/2018 13:31

I would pronounce Thalia tah-lee-ah, I do prefer it spelled as Tahlia Grin

TatianaLarina · 19/01/2018 14:50

Thalia for sure. Cadence is awful.

TatianaLarina · 19/01/2018 14:50

Tarlia is how it’s pronounced.

SandLand · 19/01/2018 15:03

I'd say Tha-lee-ah for your spelling, and Ta-lee-ah for the Tahlia spelling.
Preference would be Tahlia, Cadence, Thalia, so I guess Cadence from your choices.

pipilangstrumpf · 19/01/2018 15:45

I'd spell it Talia! Pronounced Ta-lia.

Don't like Cadence

PointlessUsername · 19/01/2018 15:46

Cadence

Topseyt · 19/01/2018 16:41

Thalia is best.

Cadence is a cycling term. I think it means the rate at which an individual pedals (i.e. their rpm).

Ritualunion · 19/01/2018 16:43

I definitely prefer Thalia.

Cadence is also a running term.

GeorgeTheHamster · 19/01/2018 16:45

Cadence is a musical term too. Basically it is a word not a name.

Why not spell it Talia if that's how you want it to be pronounced?

BSintolerant · 19/01/2018 16:45

A kid called Cadence might worry if she's perfect, imperfect, plagal or interrupted.

Cinnamoncookie · 19/01/2018 16:45

Cadence is also a musical term - you can have perfect, imperfect, interrupted and plagal cadences. There's unlikely to be any music education in schools by the time your DD goes, so she may not encounter this interpretation of her name.

Cinnamoncookie · 19/01/2018 16:46

Ha, crossword BS

Cinnamoncookie · 19/01/2018 16:46

Ffs.

EggsonHeads · 19/01/2018 16:48

Candence hands down.

ClaraVine66 · 19/01/2018 16:49

Thalia or Talia are beautiful (pronounced tah-lee-a). Don't like Cadence at all.

EivissaSenorita · 19/01/2018 16:49

I prefer it spelled Tahlia. When I see Thalia I always think of a yeast infection or STD no idea why.
