I also love the Ailís pronounced
Aylish, what's everyone's opinion?

It's actually pronounced Ay-leesh if there's a fada (í) on the second í, ay-lish if it's just spelt Ailis (or Eilis) without the fada.

I love it though, the E spelling was my aunt's name. Definitely use it!

It’s lovely.

Haudyerwheesht · 11/01/2018 02:00

I love it.

If the fada is on the second vowel I would say Al-eesh. Is that would you want?

ems137 · 11/01/2018 07:14

My Auntys name is Eilis (pron Aylish) and I love it

I’ve never seen it with a fada before...

I know an Ailis, which she pronounces the way you want. I’ve also heard of the spelling Ailish which I think is pronounced the way you want.

I love Ailis / Ailish btw fwiw. One of my favourite girl names. Not sure how I feel about Ay-leesh though.

TonicAndTonic · 11/01/2018 11:04

I think it's pretty but I've never seen this name before and so would have pronounced it wrong without your explanation! So I think you have to be prepared to spend a lot of time correcting people if you use this name.

I know an Eilish, pronounced the way you like it
