A name as fabulous as Anna

I have an Anna and love her name. I can't find another which feels as right.
Something classic, timeless and international.
Possibly like Lucia or Maria.
Any ideas? Thanks

Maria is lovely......but how will you pronounce it? Love the Italian way., Ma-ree-a don't like M'rye-a.

Honor is a timeless name, but doesn't work with Anna, but what about Constance, Hope or Verity?

Going slightly left field, what about Loveday, Eugenie, Genevieve, Vivienne or Iolanthe?

Anna is such a classic and a wonderful name, hope you find something equally gorgeous.

Just remembered I know a little Eliza with a sister named Anna Mary.
Of course there is always Jane, quite lovely in its simplicity.

Evanna13 · 12/01/2018 13:40

I have an Anna too.
Other names I love are Rose, Lucia, Clara, Emma & Maeve.
So many beautiful names to choose from x

Isabel, Eve, Maya/Maia ? (a lot more interesting than May, IMO, but of course should be pronounced my-a). Perhaps a Greek based name like Zoe or Chloe would also fit well with Anna. Or Sophia of course, although that is so popular in the UK now. Julia?

I love Anna, and I know what you mean about names that are international. The trouble is a lot of these are names that may be spelled the same in different countries, but often have completely different pronunciations. For instance Eva is pronounced as Ava in most other European countries I believe, Helena can be Helen-a, Hel-ayna, Hel-eena, probably HeLENNa too, Lucia is Loo-see-a, Loo-chee-a, Loo-thee-a, Loo-sha, etc. all depending on country. With Rose I believe it is pronounced more like 'Roz' with a short 'o' in France, the only country I know of outside UK/Ireland where it is used (could be wrong about this). Most countries would use the form Rosa which I think only has one pronunciation (again I could be wrong). Rosa is nicer too, IMO, more unusual than Rose in the UK and less likely to become Rosie!

Thank you all again. I'm really unsure. I love Rose, but not as much as Anna. It seems more 'pretty' and less simple. More to live up to maybe?
I love Ros, but Rosalind is perhaps too long/ frilly/ fancy for us.
I love May too. Some have said it's boring but the same could be said of Anna. Simple, unfussy, timeless?
Olivia is beautiful but I'm not sure about Liv/ Livvy.
Julia is lovely but doesn't work with their brother. I love his name too, but not sure whether to 'out' my children? His is French and fairly on trend, but a really old, classic name.
We don't know the sex. To give more of a picture, if it's a boy we've chosen Will.
I appreciate all the suggestions and comments. Obviously some can't work with our surname etc. but I won't go on!

May is lovely, simple and timeless. I think it would go well with a long last name.
Would you consider Maeve? My friend has a Maeve Elizabeth and I think it's such a beautiful name.

MiniAlphaBravo · 12/01/2018 19:02

Sarah!

daisypond · 12/01/2018 19:10

I don't think there are many names that cross as many international boundaries and are as classic as Anna. I would have suggested Rose/Rosa, too. Also Maria - the traditional English way is to pronounce it Mar-eye-ah, though it's now really been taken over by the Spanish/Italian Mar-ee-ah. Mary is perhaps fresher and is equally timeless. I think May is really nice - I don't think it's boring at all. In fact, it's super as a first name. It's as a middle name that it gets a bit overlooked. And Flora, too, maybe. I'd also put Elizabeth in there - though it does change its spelling and its variations wherever you go.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 12/01/2018 19:10

Nina (if I had girl/girl twins they would absolutely be Anna and Nina)
Lucy
Miranda
Cara - or Clara

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2018 19:18

Elouise is awful - looks like a typo.
