Just started a thread with the same name but posted too soon 🙈 (have reported it to be deleted) will try again!

Here’s our shortlist:

Ada
Etta
Maggie
Wren
Margot
Mabel
Nellie
Nora
Winnie

A very common one syllable surname. Middle name will be Mabel if it’s not the first.
What’s your favourite?! Would love some opinions please 😊

I love Wren or Margot.

MissJaySays · 08/01/2018 20:45

How is Ada pronounced?
I like Nora!

ChocolateCrunch · 08/01/2018 20:48

I like Wren, Margot, Mabel and Nellie

Ikeameatballs · 08/01/2018 20:53

Like Ada and love Etta.

Maggie Mabel makes me think of the Rod Stewart song Maggie May.

Winnie Mabel makes me think of Winnebagos.

Wren and Margot are both ok, not sure about Wren with Mabel as a mn and a single syllable surname. Day to day she'll be Wren X, might sound short and sweet or a bit harsh.,without knowing the surname it's hard to tell.

Don't like Nellie but love Nell.

Love Nora.

DuggeeHugs · 08/01/2018 20:56

Margot Mabel has a nice ring to it Smile

WhereIsBlueRabbit · 08/01/2018 21:00

Etta Mabel would work well.

Patal · 08/01/2018 21:02

Etta Mabel has the nicest sound to it from your list

youarenotkiddingme · 08/01/2018 21:06

I live the name Nellie but with Albie it's a bit of a tongue twister!

Albie and Mabel and Albie and Ada are my favourites.

Etta is nice too.

fieldfox · 08/01/2018 21:11

Wren and Etta are lovely Smile

ObiJuanKenobi · 08/01/2018 21:12

I love Ada!

Motherofbabydragons · 08/01/2018 21:14

We have very similar taste! My daughters name is similar to Etta and Mabel is top of the list if this bump is of the girl kind! I also adore Nora but doesn’t go well with DD name. So those would be my choices :)

ObiJuanKenobi · 08/01/2018 21:14

Pronounced Aid-ah for PP

Motherofbabydragons · 08/01/2018 21:14

Love Ada and Nellie too...SUCH a good list!lol

EveMoneypenny · 08/01/2018 21:15

I like Nora, Maggie and Margot, in that order.

strawberrypenguin · 08/01/2018 21:16

Margot. Lovely name, not overused and fits well with Albie

SuperBeagle · 08/01/2018 21:18

Ada - Not a fan. Prefer Ava, despite it's popularity.

Etta - On principle, I like it. But where I live, this would be pronounced "Edda", which is just not attractive.

Maggie - Not a fan. Thatcher, Simpson...

Wren - Like it.

Margot - Don't like. Cannot warm to it despite having a relative named this, and despite Margot Robbie having been famous here for eons. Don't like the sound, nor the fact that it looks too similar to maggot.

Mabel - No. Should remain a relic.

Nellie - No. Elephant.

Nora - Love this.

Winnie - Like this, but think it's much better as a nickname (Winifred, Winona, Wilhelmina etc).

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/01/2018 21:21

Love wren and mabel.

AnyaMoondial · 08/01/2018 21:30

I vote for Mabel Margot.

LovelyBranches · 08/01/2018 21:48

Mabel Nell is lovely. I’m a big fan of Mabel, it has wonderful associations for me and I think it’s quite a cool name.

That said, out of your list I find it hard to see a first name that really goes with Mabel as middle name, maybe Wren Mabel.

JaxPlanes · 09/01/2018 19:35

Wow lots of different opinions 😁 thank you all so much! Have read all the replies to DH to try and form some sort of shorter list!

Nora, Mabel, Nellie (Nell) and Ada are my front runners and the rest are DH’s! He’s not keen on Etta unfortunately, although I really like it.

Forgot to say that Mabel would be the middle name only if it went well with the first! Otherwise, who knows! 🙈

Hettie Mabel!!

Mrsknackered · 09/01/2018 20:07

I absolutely love every single one except Nora and Winnie. Even then they're not awful.

I'd go for Ada Mable or Wren Mabel. Love Maggie and Margot, but a bit much with Mabel.

HettyB · 09/01/2018 20:16

Ada - I like this but don’t think it works with Mabel due to the repeating ‘ay’ sound
Etta - alright and works with Mabel
Maggie - love this but would put Margaret on birth certificate
Wren - nice but maybe a bit ‘now’
Margot - nice
Mabel - lovely
Nellie - I really like Nellie/Nell but would use as a nn for a longer name, eg. Elinor or Helena
Nora - nice, but a bit ‘old lady’ with Mabel
Winnie - as Nora

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/01/2018 20:36

Love Etta 💖

PinkAvocado · 09/01/2018 20:43

I never understand the love for Wren. It doesn’t sound nice and it is a fairly non-descript bird. If birds are the inspiration for a name surely something notable like, Owl or Lorikeet would be preferable. Or Superb Fairywren. Grin

I like Ada and Mabel.
