Help me with a boys name

TobleroneBoo · 08/01/2018 16:21

Our first baby is due in April, we had decided on a girls name but we have since found out we are having a boy and now we stuck!

I would like something not too common, but not too out there! Between DP and I, we currently like Logan and Roman

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I irrationally hate Logan so prefer Roman out of your choices.

My DS1 is Magnus which sort of fits your bill. On our list was Vincent, Gabriel and Reuben as well which are all 'normal' names but not common.

Roman is fabulous.

What lovely American imports...

Unicorn82 · 09/01/2018 09:56

Lennon? Really?

I’m a self-confessed name snob. As a teacher I see so many awful and badly spelt names.
Parents who give their kids “different” and “interesting” names are so selfish. They name their kids for their own sake - somehow forgetting that their kid has got to go through life with stupid names with even more ridiculous spellings. Just cos a parent likes a Name cos today it’s trendy, cool, etc… why burden a kid with that???? Pure and utter selfish

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 09/01/2018 10:35

@Unicorn

What are you on about? Logan is Scottish, Luca is Italian, William..?

Trendy means popular at the moment, does it not? So, banging on about how parents should just pick ‘normal’ names doesn’t sit right, (and also makes you sound like Mr or Mrs Dursley from Harry Potter. Or who was it said to their gay child “why do you want to be happy when you could just be NORMAL”? Think it was the mother of a poet laureate, but will have to google. Anyway, I digress.

Surely, the ‘trendy’ names you’re getting on your high horse about will be the most well-used ones in the class in a few years, so they’ll be the new normal. If you were hell bent on choosing something ‘different’, you’d pick Paul or Simon these days.

Motherofbabydragons · 09/01/2018 11:04

Unicorn I think your comment is a bit harsh...the OP asked about Logan and Roman, perfectly reasonable names. You seem quite angry? I think the issue here belongs to you not the OP.

OP-Logan is actually quite common where I live-in my baby friendship group there are two and I also know of three others under 5. I always seem to meet them at baby class too, so if you’re looking for something more unusual I would probably go with Roman :)

LittlestTruck · 09/01/2018 11:08

I like Roman out of your choices but think Rowan is even nicer if you like that?

Intercom · 09/01/2018 11:20

Are you really a teacher, Unicorn?

TobleroneBoo · 09/01/2018 11:50

Thank you for those of you who posted helpful replies

@Motherofbabydragons where abouts are you if you dont mind me asking, not specifically, just a general area

I do like Rowan @LittlestTruck but have a friend with a girl Rowan, which isnt hugely important but there are so many more names out there, I must like one!

I’m in the South West :)

Mrsknackered · 09/01/2018 12:13

I'm in the West Yorkshire OP and know 3 little Logan's. The youngest 4 months, the oldest 2.

Mrsknackered · 09/01/2018 12:13

Wasn't meant to say 'the West Yorkshire' Blush

Buntysoven · 09/01/2018 23:50

Odd usage of random capital and rather heavy on the exclamation marks there, teach! 😂
