Also please feel free to suggest alternatives.

I'd like to try and avoid really popular names, and I don't like 'surname' names (Harrison, Fletcher, Mason, etc) and anything too made up sounding.

Lucas
Toby
Benjamin
Lucian
Albert (possibly middle name)
Henry
Arthur
Timothy
Max
Alexander
Louis
Barnaby
Samuel
Theodore

I really like Barnaby! I’ve got it on my list too.

I also like Benjamin, Henry, Arthur, Alexander and Theodore.

Dislike Louis, Lucas, Max and Samuel, but not for any particular reason and they’re far from terrible.

How about Sebastian or Nathaniel?

Least favourite is Timothy.

From your list, I like Benjamin, Henry, Max and Theo (but not Theodore).

How about Hamish, Rupert, William or Jasper?

Lucas - I like it. I t is very poplar
Toby - Seems to always be fairly popular
Benjamin - I like it
Lucian - No.
Albert (possibly middle name) - No. I really don't like Albie or Bertie.
Henry - it's ok
Arthur - Not keen but it's probably quite popular
Timothy - yes, biblical but probably not overused in under 40s
Max - yes but very popular
Alexander - yes but very popular
Louis - no
Barnaby - I like it.
Samuel - Classic
Theodore - Horrible

We must have similar tastes because I like all of them - particular favourites are Lucas, Toby , Louis, Barnaby and Samuel.

Probably least common at the moment are Lucian, Timothy and Barnaby. While Albert, Henry, Max and Alexander are popular.

From your list I like Henry, Max and Alexander the best. I would have liked to call DS Max but unfortunately a relative got there before me! I do like Benjamin but not a fan of Ben. I have a feeling that Arthur and Louis were really popular baby names last year? Maybe just among my friends and family though!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 05/01/2018 18:16

Love Max and Louis.😄

Smoliver · 05/01/2018 20:13

From your list I like Lucas, Henry, Timothy, Samuel and Theodore. I think Albert is a great middle name for any of these options Smile

Daisy91 · 05/01/2018 20:17

Max. Love it- if our surname didn’t begin with an M this would be my choice!

NinonDeLenclos · 05/01/2018 20:18

My favourites are Alex and Louis. Pehaps both. Although Louis Albert is good.

Joeybee · 05/01/2018 20:42

A lot of the names on your list are also on mine and I have the same sort of criteria for naming.

Lucas - Trying to convince my Husband on this one. It's just a good name. Not too popular, but not too' out-there'. Not sure on Luke though, which it'd get nicknamed to.

Toby - Short for Tobias and this is a winner.

Benjamin - So sweet. Love Ben/Benji as nicknames. I always imagine a Benjamin being a naughty kid though which puts me off.

Lucian - Don't like it. To me it sounds a little weak and made-up. Plus it's a bit...I dunno. I think it's one of those polarising names.

Albert (possibly middle name)
Henry - Love this name. Royal connections, bold, strong. Also not overly poplar, and I don't think it's become overly popular. People tend to opt for Harry instead.

Arthur- YES!!! Love that the little old man names are coming round again. Could be a strong, sporty type of kid, or a sweet, quiet kind of kid. Sort of fits anyone. Puts me off that theres no nickname potential though.

Timothy - I think this name is so sweet and sounds smart and kind. Can't move my Husband on this one. He thinks it is boring, plain and a bit dim. Plus Tim isn't a great nickname.

Max - As a nickname for Maxwell/Maxamillion would be okay.

Alexander - YES. Love this name. However it is pretty popular. It's likely there'd be another Alexander in the childs class at some point.

Louis - Like this French name. Would annoy me that some people would say it like 'Loo-y' and some might say it like 'Lewis'.

Barnaby - Don't like this name. It's a little pompus and grand. Plus Barney is a bit....well Barney the dinosaur.

Samuel - Nice all rounder name. Inoffensive, no bullying potential. It's just a nice, strong name.

Theodore - Sweet, great nickname with Theo, sounds like a gentle, calm, smart boy. Only thing putting me off is that it's starting to get a bit trendy and I worry it'll be too popular in the future.
