Lovely but immediately think Kardashians!

ShotsFired · 04/01/2018 18:07

Awful, sorry. The kind of name you hear being yelled out in a fury across a playground all day long.

elQuintoConyo · 04/01/2018 18:08

Not keen. Sorry. Sounds harsh.

villainousbroodmare · 04/01/2018 18:08

Dreadful, sorry.

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 18:08

For a boy? It's fine :)

Doesn't make me think of the Kardashians, btw...(I thought their names started with K? Khloe etc?)

Pemba · 04/01/2018 18:08

It's a skilled trade. How about Carpenter or Joiner? I know it is a thing nowadays to give this type of name, like Hunter or Archer, but I just don't get it. Don't see the attraction.

BareBum · 04/01/2018 18:09

Really awful as a first name. It’s fine as a surname though.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/01/2018 18:10

awful.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/01/2018 18:12

One of the most horrible names there are.
However my opinion is one thing asking fact is very much another, so if you like it thats fine

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/01/2018 18:12

Awful. Just awful.

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 18:14

I really like the sound of this name!
Soft but still masculine :) And it's a respectable trade, isn't it?

(What could be an issue is conspiracy theorists thinking that it's some sort of Statement about freemasons? Idk... It's a rather unusual name, isn't it?)

Thirtyrock39 · 04/01/2018 18:14

Straight away think kardashians

brizzledrizzle · 04/01/2018 18:15

awful.

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 18:17

Oops. Doesn't seem like it gets the mumsnet seal of approval.

I've never met a child / baby named Mason.

But I did some work with a rather attractive and really intelligent American named Mason some years ago (before I met DH...Grin) A name with good associations for me persoally. ;)

the spelling is rather obvious as well... Which tends to be an advantage.

Glitterspy · 04/01/2018 18:19

NN "mace" isn't attractive. It's not a name I'd choose myself, sorry. Goes in my book with Kyran Jayden Madison etc

DramaAlpaca · 04/01/2018 18:19

I don't like it at all. I don't generally like surnames as first names anyway, but I particularly dislike Mason.

BossWitch · 04/01/2018 18:20

Chav. Sorry, I know that's bad.

Taught one. Horrible kid. Used to wind everyone else up and then cry/tantrum if anyone so much as looked at him the wrong way (in year 7).

One in my dd's nursery class. The only one she doesn't like because he's the only one who snatches toys off her. Also the one who is always being told off by the staff!

Bad name!

jaimelannistersgoldenhand · 04/01/2018 18:22

Jar or Kardashian here which is not the best.

Ragwort · 04/01/2018 18:29

Showing my age but it would remind me of the Masonic Society rather than the Kardashians - both equally awful Grin.

Bellamuerte · 04/01/2018 18:32

It's chavvy. Sorry :(

horatioisabrick · 04/01/2018 18:34

Kyran Jayden Madison etc

Jayden is very unusual (ranked 748) and looks imo misspelled.
Kyran is currently rather unusal as well and might also lead to spelling problems (why not Keiran?)
Madison isn't even used for boys and seems dated (was super popular in 2004/5)

Mason is rather popular (ranked 34, I thought it was rarer...), doesn't seem to have any other spelling variants (unlike Kyran), is almost exclusively used for boys(unlike Madison) and has been rather popular since the 90ies (probably won't date).

Maybe I'm a bit over-invested but I don't get the animosity towards this name...

Mason is a semi popular (top 50ies) name, doesn't seem to be offensive, was a top 200 name in the 90ies, is easy to spell, pronounce?

I'm not saying anyone has to like Mason (obviously!). But seeing as we might need to name as DS... I'd really like to understand this.

Sonny might be a cute nickname. Or Mas (like Max but with an s).

Firenight · 04/01/2018 18:34

It’s nice solid surname. Wouldn’t use it for a first name though!

Clarabumps · 04/01/2018 18:36

Awful, instant rolled up trouser leg connotations of the Masonic Lodge.

BossWitch · 04/01/2018 18:39

Putting it bluntly, it's a social class thing. It 'ranks with' Hayden, Jayden, Kyran etc as it seems to fit a council estate aesthetic, not in terms of its frequency of use.

Backing out now as going to get obliterated for that...

PotteringAlong · 04/01/2018 18:39

Nope. Not for me.
