I don't think I've ever seen Nicola mentioned. There were lots in my generation. Maybe it will be back in 5-10 years when we start to become grannies.

I've got a nearly 14 year old Martyn.
Don't see many of them that aren't at least 35.

Must admit, I was surprised when the parents proudly announced baby Malcolm.

I know someone who's recently acquired a puppy and called it Malcolm. Some people were surprised at that choice too. Personally I quite like the idea of a dog having a slightly comical human name.

I know lots of teenage Rachels and a few Lauras, Rebeccas and Sarahs not sure if I know any under ten though. I've met a couple of Peters who are under 5 and an Michael who must be about 5 now. Also knew a Trevor who would be in his early teens now and an under 5 Bruce.

Lots of names that were previously popular seem just to come back in a slightly different form eg not many Louises now but Louisa or Eloise are fairly popular Emma/Emily seems to have been replaced with Emilias and Helens have been replaced with Helena or other 'elle' names.

Declan is becoming popular in the US. I suspect this is because it's an Irish name but easy to spell and pronounce..

Fun fact - there were more Khaleesis than Claire's born in 2016!

I think Sarah re-entered the top 100 at the lower end.

Names are cyclical. They get over used and then people tend to be put off them by their popularity, then people periodically bring them back because they want an uncommon name but one that is definitely a proper name rather than something made up. This is part of the reason why super traditional names like Albert and Elsie have now got really popular again - none of us went to school with an Albert or an Elsie I suspect, but plenty of us will know of an under 5 year old Albert or Elsie!

In 20 years time the Ivy's, Evelyn's, Alfred's and Sidney's born at the moment will no doubt decide Nicola, David, Rachel, Claire or Michael would be a lovely, traditional, but not too common name for their baby and the cycle shall continue....whilst the names Oliver and Olivia shall fall out of favour for no better reason than they just got too popular!
