Still TTC but we really love the names Bridget and Tiffany for a girl. What are your opinions on these names? We don't know if they are too dated? Do any of you have kids with older fashioned names? Thanks

Not a fan of Tiffany, just isn't to my taste.
Love Bridget.
My DD's have "older" names.

Battleax · 03/01/2018 01:09

Tiffany sounds very "big hair", "daddy's credit card".

Bridget sounds "pudding bowl haircut" and sensible shoes.

Very different connotations but neither of them great, to me.

What else is on your list?

sycamore54321 · 03/01/2018 01:09

Wow, those are two very different names, completely at opposite ends of the spectrum for me. That seems very surprising to me that someone would love both.

I really dislike Tiffanny, particularly with the renewed Trump angle. I think it is very dated. I would imagine virtually all Tiffannys were born in or very near the 1980s.

I quite like Bridget spelled Brigid, not so much spelled the way you have chosen. It is definitely old-fashioned rather than dated I think, and I could easily see it regaining a certain popularity. I would expect most Brigids I would meet to have an Irish family connection somewhere.

I quite like Bridget but you sometimes you need to meet (well see) your baby to see if a name will suit them - if that makes sense.

Battleax · 03/01/2018 01:11

X post syc Smile

OP are you in the States? The country might make a difference.

LMR93 · 03/01/2018 01:13

Hey thank you all so far!
And no, we are in the UK

Agree with Battleax - sorry!

Smoliver · 03/01/2018 07:45

I like Tiffany and Bridget is actually on my ever-growing names list. I've been told various times though that I like very dated/80's names though. I don't care though, I still like them Grin

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 03/01/2018 08:22

Bridget by miles. It’s old-fashioned in a nice way. Tiffany is (imo) horrible and old-fashioned in a not nice way.

ILookedintheWater · 03/01/2018 08:28

Very different names. I don't see Bridget with a pudding bowl haircut at all. I think it's a beautiful classic name, possibly with an Irish or at least old family Catholic connection.
Tiffany is the name of a jeweller and a character from EastEnders and an 80's pop star. Sort of the 80s equivalent of naming your child Chardonnay in the noughties.

Lisette40 · 03/01/2018 08:32

Bridget of York was a daughter of Edward IV and was possibly named after St Bridget of Sweden.

babynamelol · 03/01/2018 08:33

I think both are awful, sorry.

Bellamuerte · 03/01/2018 08:36

Bridget reminds me of Bridget Jones. It sounds a bit stodgy and sensible. Tiffany is one of those chav names that people take the mick out of. Not a fan of either, sorry.

HuskyMcClusky · 03/01/2018 08:38

Tiffany is fluffy and awful.

Bridget is clunky and awful.

I pretty much agree with Battleax. Sorry! Blush

HuskyMcClusky · 03/01/2018 08:42

If I had to pick one, though - Bridget by a mile!!

Jenala · 03/01/2018 08:45

Bridget is ok. Can imagine it coming back. Tiffany is really really horrible. I've attached a picture of the kind of image that Tiffany brings to my mind.

Bridget makes me think of Brigitte Bardot and Tiffany makes me think of Martine McCutcheon (sp?) in EastEnders. Both I think could easily be revived, but my personal preference would be Brigitte (with the French spelling).

Jedbartletforpresident · 03/01/2018 09:05

Not keen on Tiffany at all, but I do like Brigit. I also love Brid (pronounced Breege with a soft g) and would have considered it for one of our DD's if it hadn't already been in use in the family.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 03/01/2018 10:22

❤️ Bridget 😄

Choccyhobnob · 03/01/2018 10:33

Not a fan of either although Bridget is definitely the better of the two. What about Bryony?

eastlondoner · 03/01/2018 10:36

Bridget is lovely Smile

Tiffany is 1980's dreadful Confused

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 03/01/2018 10:39

My dd is Tiffany!! Never ever Tiff. And def not chavvy either!! She loves her name, is very popular, on the G&T register and isn't any of the above negative attributes!

RavenWings · 03/01/2018 11:53

I agree that Tiffany is very 80s/ American pop star. Bridget is nice, I prefer Brigid though. I also like the Brigitte and Bryony suggestions - Brid is a very middle aged Irish name to me, like calling a child Pamela. Nothing wrong with it but it sounds off.

villainousbroodmare · 03/01/2018 12:00

I like Brigid, Bríghid more so than Bridget. Tiffany is tacky as can be imo. Sorry PP. I do know a lovely Australian girl who goes by Tiff, which I like better.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 03/01/2018 12:05

I dislike Tiffyany.

Bridget is a bit ‘pudding bowl haircuts and sensible shoes’ imo.

I really Brigid and Birgit.
