Georgiana or Arianna?

User45632874 · 01/01/2018 16:22

I am currently expecting dd3 and I am looking for a classical type of name to run alongside my other dd's names (which obviously I won't state here because I could well 'out' myself).
Georgiana was my first thought but dh doesn't like the shortened version of Georgie.
The second name which has come to mind other than Mariella (which has been ruled out because it is too close to dd1's name) is Arianna - which I presumed could be shortened to Anna.
Thoughts on Georgiana and Arianna please...or any other similar suggestions...

Arianna is beautiful.

Georgiana always sounds a bit made up to me. I'm not particularly keen on it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/01/2018 16:28

I would have said Georgiana, as I'm fed up with everyone raving over the name Arianna. However if your DH doesnt like Georgie. You're best or with Arianna or Marianna.
Other ideas. You seem to like long names
Christina. Christiana
Rosabelle.
Penelope.
Vivienne
Melissa
Matilda
Evangeline
Miranda
Melanie
Suzannah

I prefer Georgina to Georgiana, but I absolutely love Arianna.

daisypond · 01/01/2018 16:43

Arianna looks a bit odd to me, like it's missing an initial M. I don't think I've come across it before, so maybe I'm just unfamiliar with it, although I know both an Ariane and an Ariana (both are not from the UK).

User45632874 · 01/01/2018 16:59

Yes, Ariana is another variant, shortened to Ana, not sure which shortened version I prefer Anna or Ana - one of them is in Disney frozen isn't it though can't remember which one...

I think arianna has a strong celeb connection to ms Grande and I would assume your dd had been named after her.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/01/2018 17:07

Arianna, I can only praise Arianna Grande, for the love she showed to everyone. It is a very pretty name.

Heratnumber7 · 01/01/2018 17:13

Not Ariana, unless you're planning on her marrying a Greek prince!

daisypond · 01/01/2018 17:17

Ariana Grande is spelled like that, with only one N, not Arianna. I assume Ariana is the Spanish spelling and Arianna is perhaps the Italian/Greek? Anna is the Frozen character.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 01/01/2018 18:49

I love Arianna (sorry @babyspider Wink).

AfterSchoolWorry · 01/01/2018 18:53

Ariana/Arianna is much prettier and more feminine than Georgiana.

Potteryprincess30 · 01/01/2018 19:52

Ariana was definitely in my top few names for my baby, really lovely name

User45632874 · 01/01/2018 20:01

Thanks for all of your replies so far...Lots of people (from reading other threads) nearly chose the name Arianna...I like it but uncertain whether I love it...if you had this name in your top list of names do you mind me asking what you actually chose in the end?

I love Ariadne. Also love Hermione (although maybe too Harry Potter now?), Callista and Alexandra (love Alex for short).

Mum8 · 01/01/2018 20:11

Ariadne is another similar name to Ariana but rarer
Georgiana I like though it is long so it will be shortened

Mrsboathook · 01/01/2018 20:11

I love Ariadne too

User45632874 · 01/01/2018 21:00

I started off with Georgina and also thought about Estella too, like Mum8, I just can't find a name I can pin down. DH has promised to start looking soon too - so we'll see what he comes up with - we were able to agree on the names of our other 2 dds...

Arianna

I strongly dislike all the George names - Georgia, Georgina, Georgiana. They look kind of...furry and fuzzy.

User45632874 · 02/01/2018 16:06

Ah, Husky, I'm swaying more toward Georgina again...furry and fuzzy is an interesting concept...never heard of a name described as furry, possibly fuzzy though.
DH has promised to start looking at names soon...when I spoke to him yesterday evening he said he didn't like the shortened Georgie version...then came up with Helen...Hells for short...think I'd better catch him in a better state of mind! Helen/or Helena is also similar to dd1s name I think.

Definitely Georgiana. My daughter is Georgette. I wanted Georgeva but this was vetoed!

All in honour of my dad George Smile
