What’s everyone’s thoughts on Martha?
I love it, it’s got the old vibe we are going for, but some people have mentioned the biblical story, said it’s too old fashioned etc etc
Already have a Lily.

Gorgeous name. I love it. Very pretty and very classic. Here's a tip...don't discuss names with people.

Not everyone will like the one you choose so you'll always have someone saying something negative about each one...then you'll never have one you can choose with no prior thoughts of "Oh but Aunty Em says that name reminds her of her mean supervisor'

nuttyknitter · 01/01/2018 12:07

Love it!

theaveragewife · 01/01/2018 12:08

Lovely

Glumglowworm · 01/01/2018 12:22

Lovely as long as you’re not somewhere that can’t pronounce the th sound. Mar-fa is less lovely

eastlondoner · 01/01/2018 12:33

I like it. It's very popular where I am and has been for a few years. That wouldn't bother me though as my 4 month old has a name that's top 10 at the moment.

ChocolateCrunch · 01/01/2018 12:49

I think it's lovely

Pidlan · 01/01/2018 12:50

Lovely! I'd pronounce it in the Welsh way, with a rolled r.

twinjocks · 01/01/2018 12:52

Gorgeous name.

NotCornflakes · 01/01/2018 12:53

I love it too, it's top of the list if I ever have a DD.

Fefifoefum · 01/01/2018 13:11

Its top of my list, but DH hates it! Boo!

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 01/01/2018 13:31

It’s fine. I personally don’t love it but there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with it imo.

TabbyCat864 · 01/01/2018 13:56

It's not offensive. But it's a very wet fish name. I can't imagine a strong woman with this name.

NC4now · 01/01/2018 14:00

Lovely name. It’s my confirmation name. I actually like the bible story, but it doesn’t matter if you aren’t churchgoers. It’s a lovely name.

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2018 14:05

It sounds very dreary to me & I don't like it at all. Sorry.

Lily is a sweet, pretty name & Martha is just the opposite.

MikeUniformMike · 01/01/2018 14:10

It goes well with Lily. It makes me think of the girl who was on GBBO.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 01/01/2018 14:13

Love it, but I have a DD called Martha!

Aturkeyisnotjustforchristmas · 01/01/2018 14:20

I love it, lots.

AlrightBabby · 01/01/2018 16:03

I love it. Both of my boys would have been Martha 😍

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/01/2018 17:17

Lily and Martha, fabby ! 😄

daisypond · 01/01/2018 17:23

I quite like it, but it has a bit of a worthy servant vibe about it, which I'm not so keen on. On the other hand, it's not overly frilly, which is nice. The Marthas I know are in their late teens, so it might be going out of fashion nowadays, if that bothers you.

BlazingPaddles · 01/01/2018 18:21

Deffo agree with the 'worthy servant' vibe. It's okay though and I love, love, love the song Martha by Tom Waits.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 01/01/2018 18:32

It does remind me of the Handmaid’s Tale, to be very honest...

deptfordgirl · 01/01/2018 21:13

Love it.

FlawlessFuckup · 02/01/2018 10:37

Thanks for all replies. Interesting to hear different opinions.
I’m definitley not put off by popularity, I have a lovely Lily! And my boys name is Henry. I like to think the popular names are popular because they are the best Grin

Not keen, harsh sounding in my opinion. Although that's possibly that the regional accent where I am would most probably pronounce it as Mar-fa Hmm
