Winter Rose!

I like Indie (it's often a name I suggest here) however Indie Violet sounds like the 'I can sing a rainbow🌈 song but with indigo and violet.....

nooka · 30/12/2017 07:51

Winter Rose is a hellebore. Or maybe a perfumed candle or bodywash.

Indie to me is Indiana Jones (although I guess he was probably Indy). I don't think I'd like to be called Indie, seems very nicknamish to me. India is much more elegant.

bastardkitty · 30/12/2017 07:57

I like both, especially Winter Rose, but please, not Winnie. It's awful and not even shorter than Winter.

AuntieStella · 30/12/2017 07:58

Winter is a Victorian boy's name. I think it sounds wrong on a girl.

Indie is rather Indiana, which is also a male name (Jones).

So I'm assuming you deliberately want a masculine sounding name,.

Of the two, I'd go for Indie

Love Winter Rose.

marmitecrumpets · 30/12/2017 08:18

Both are fab
But I don't like Winnie. Just stay as Winter

Rach2310 · 30/12/2017 09:30

Thanks for your responses everyone!

Would you ever shorted Winter or nickname - if so what would you use?

Do you think Winter flows well with a surname that rhymes with Dalton?

It won’t let me edit the above ^ I mean shorten, not shorted!

I like winter rose! That's lovely. Especially if due/ born in winter! Would be rubbish for a July baby obviously Smile

Baubletrouble43 · 30/12/2017 09:45

I know a boy called indie BTW. India is better imo x

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 30/12/2017 09:48

It depends. Winter is nice but will you run around playgroups screaming at people who just call her Winter and not “Winter Rose”. Because I know from experience (with a bitter playgroup Mum whose daughter also has Rose as the second part) that people will just use the first name.

I don’t think you should deliberately shorten it to anything or plan nicknames. These things develop by themselves.

DeepanKrispanEven · 30/12/2017 09:51

Neither, really. I'm not a fan of names that have to be linked with another to work, and the reality is that people will only use the first names. Winter on its own sounds weird, and Indie just sounds like people's short version of "Independent". People will assume Winnie is short for Winifred.

Beansmeans · 30/12/2017 10:46

I know a Winter nn Winnie and she is adorable so that gets my vote!
A friend of a friend also has an Indie which I also like but Winter just pips it for me. Great names op!

Rach2310 · 30/12/2017 12:08

It’s not Walton. It’s more like doulton. No W though!

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 30/12/2017 14:44

I think Violet Doulton sounds much better than Winter Doulton.

Marcipex · 30/12/2017 15:02

Winter is lovely, not keen on Winnie. Indie is nice too.

daisypond · 30/12/2017 15:28

Winter Rose isn't my style of name, but I do think it's rather nice and much better than Indie Violet. But Winter on its own just seems a bit odd. I don't like Winnie at all. Indie just makes me think of car racing - Indy 500, etc. And I hate the name India, if Indie was short for that - it just speaks of colonialism.

vinoandbrie · 04/01/2018 11:31

Winter Rose!

Pemba · 04/01/2018 14:32

Agree that Indie is not a proper name, it's an adjective (type of music etc.) and just doesn't sound nice. India Rose would be OK, but Winter Rose is nicer.

buttercup54321 · 04/01/2018 14:58

Winter rose or Winter Violet are nice

KenForPM · 04/01/2018 16:00

Winter isn’t a name either, it’s a season. Indie is more a name to me, eg short for Indigo. Colours can and have been used as names (eg Sky, Scarlet(t)) etc.

KingsX · 04/01/2018 16:18

Of course it's a name, Ken. Pretty much anything can be a name if it's given to a person to be their name.
