Isla. Both are mightily popular at the moment. Don't get me wrong both of my DCs names have appeared in the top 20 or so for the last decade!

Cordroythisandthat · 27/12/2017 21:45

Isla

SuperStormborn · 27/12/2017 21:47

Isla is beautiful

Courgettekatie · 27/12/2017 21:51

Amelie

Babybauble · 27/12/2017 22:07

Isla, but I'm bias as I have one :p

AdalindSchade · 27/12/2017 22:08

Neither, both boringly popular at the moment

Pisstaker · 27/12/2017 22:15

As a midwife I come across more Islas than any other girls name, closely followed by Olivia, Amelia and Isabella

Kpo58 · 27/12/2017 23:24

There will probably be about 5 of each in your DD's class when she gets to school age. How will you make your DD stand out compared to the others?

jenthehen · 27/12/2017 23:28

Isla ( as long as your surname isn't White or Mann!)

Pip089 · 27/12/2017 23:45

Isla :-)

littlepoppett · 28/12/2017 00:04

Isla in my opinion is dreadful. It's so harsh sounding. Amelie is much much nicer.

littlepoppett · 28/12/2017 00:06

Amélie is one of my favourite films too Smile

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2017 00:08

Isla. It's apparently very popular, but I've never met one.

Amelie is lovely if you happen to have a French accent, otherwise it sounds like a mis-pronunciation of Emily.

jellytotslove · 28/12/2017 00:15

there's three islas in my son's year and 5 in my daughter's nursery! lovely name but far too popular right npw.
Amelia is beautiful, I have one myself Smile

marmitecrumpets · 28/12/2017 01:51

Isla

ChocolateCrunch · 28/12/2017 02:01

Amelie.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 28/12/2017 03:02

Isla.

StarsAndStripes18 · 28/12/2017 03:31

Isla is beautiful.

I've never met an Isla or an Amelie and I know a lot of kids.

CheesecakeAddict · 28/12/2017 03:36

Isla. I am also biased as it's my DD's name. They are both so common at the moment but if you like the name, who gives a fuck Xmas Smile

CrashBangTrollop · 28/12/2017 09:36

Isla is pretty yet strong, and a name that sounds good on an adult woman too.

Amelie is lovely in a French accent, but it sounds a bit wet when used over here, IMO, along with a lot of the '-ie' names that are currently very popular. I prefer Amelia.

A friend of mine with a French husband has a Clemence (can't do the accent over the first 'E' on my laptop!), and I think that's also lovely.

Jedigirl29 · 07/01/2018 17:00

Amelie

daisypond · 07/01/2018 18:01

At a push I'd go for Isla, but I'm not wild about it. Amelie is popular because of the film, so I suspect it'll date badly. It's already nearly 20 years old. I think Amelia is better, or Emily, but I'm not keen on that, really.

BlackberryandNettle · 08/01/2018 18:55

Amelia, as Isla is just so popular

Santasbigredbobblehat · 08/01/2018 19:04

Isla.

Paddingtonthebear · 08/01/2018 19:07

Three Isla’s in my DD’s reception class plus I have friends with two Isla’s and at work there are at least ten on our books (children’s sport activity). It is mega popular. I personally know two child Amelie’s and we have several on our books at work. I don’t know an adult Amelie though.

Amelia also popular at school and at work. Would say Isla more so.
