Everyone hates my baby names!

I'm having a little girl in April and I really want to call her Peaches. But nobody else can stand the name.

I'm quite heartbroken because I love it 😭 her middle name is going to be Pelagie and I think we're going with Polly as her first name but most people don't like that either.

I can't win 🙄 might just call her peaches and everyone else can suck it up.

If it has to be a "P" - I'm totally loving Paloma at the moment.

Smoliver · 24/12/2017 17:15

I quite like Peaches - I definitely heard a lot more worse names than this!

The main priority is that you and your OH like it, that's all that matters.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 24/12/2017 17:17

Peaches is dreadful but I think Pelagie is lovely, as is Paloma as mentioned by PP.

Ivyboffin · 24/12/2017 17:24

I think the names are adorable. The right mix of unusual and pretty but not weird. People always get funny about unusual names but marching to the beat of your own drum is cool and she will make it her own and people will see how much it suits her. Plus it's a name that suits a baby as well as an older girl/woman.

WitchesGlove · 24/12/2017 17:26

Honestly, there's nothing really wrong with it, I quite like it, it will grow on people I'm sure.

At least it's a little unusual too, not one of 100's of Alice's, Isla's and Emily's.

Mulch · 24/12/2017 17:28

I did read again to be sure. Not for me but there's enough evelyns and lillies already

bridgetjonesbutworse · 24/12/2017 20:59

I'm an Emily and I hate it. There is so many other Emily's

Thanks for all the feedback, sure is a mixed load of opinions some really nice ideas though

I do have a little time to decide and will probably change my mind a million times before she's born 🙄 hoping when I see her I'll just know exactly what to call her (no chance of that realistically I'm sure)

I kind of like Peaches but wouldn't want to be called it myself. As such I would never use it for a child.

Also I feel it's too tied to Peaches Geldof and her story is so sad.

I love Polly though.

StilettosAreANoNo · 25/12/2017 21:30

Pelagie is so unusual and better still has the family connection. I’d be using that as her first name. I think it would be a source of interest and compliments.

momjeansep · 25/12/2017 21:33

Peaches pelagie 😂😂😂😂
What a joke

annandale · 25/12/2017 21:42

Polly Peaches is very sweet but it makes me think of the Beggar's Opera, isn't one of the characters Polly Peachum? Sorry this has probably already been posted.

Joeybee · 25/12/2017 21:57

It's not 'everyone else that'll have to suck it up' that she's called Peaches...the child will have to suck it up too.
I think Polly is a lovely name though, not too unusual, not too popular. it's a little cutesy and that's probably what's making it polarising.
Never heard of that middle name before, people would probably not know how to spell/pronounce that name, but a middle name is not too important, so if you like that, go with it.

bridgetjonesbutworse · 25/12/2017 23:43

People who are laughing at my choice of baby names are probably the same people who call their kids "Rebecca" and "Zoe" 🙄

(Not just the people who dislike it btw fair enough dislike it but no need to say her name is "a joke" 🙄)

kaytee87 · 26/12/2017 09:07

I'd use Pelagia as a first name, slightly different form to your grandmothers name but still from the same root name. Peaches as a middle name if you love it?

TatianaLarina · 26/12/2017 09:16

I don’t like terribly conventional names like Rebecca and Zoe but I’d take them any day over Peaches, which is just so sheleb copycat.

Polly and Pelagie are great names so why even bother with Peaches? You could use it as a nn for her when she’s a kid without saddling her with it as a name for life.

Wolfiefan · 26/12/2017 09:18

The thing is that you may love the name Peaches but it's not YOUR name that you're choosing. You are choosing the unfortunate PP initials and a name that many will think "daft" or associate with Geldof for your child.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 26/12/2017 09:49

Most people like Pelagie from your names, so its not that they don't like unusual names. Peaches is a nickname for a baby, not a grown woman and a name associated with Celebrities giving their kids names that they think are 'out there' because they know their kids won't really ever need to get a conventional job.

MissBax · 26/12/2017 09:52

Polly is great

InvisibleKittenAttack · 26/12/2017 10:32

Polly is lovely - both known enough to be a perfectly normal name, however not common at all, so unlikely to be several in her class etc.

Is Polly short for anything you like?

Why not use your grandmothers name for her 1st name? That's wonderfully unusual.

Peaches is super cute, but super cute and "future prime minister" doesn't work well together.

Starryskiesinthesky · 26/12/2017 10:34

I have never heard of Pelagie but think it sounds great as a first name. Not so keen on Peaches or Polly but they are Ok. Pelagie just sounds really classy to me but still unusual.

mondler · 26/12/2017 10:41

Personally I'd use peaches as a nickname or a second middle name but its totally up to you. What letter does your surname start with? Would having 'PP' bother you?

bridgetjonesbutworse · 26/12/2017 13:40

I'd prefer a prime minister called Peaches than one called Theresa

It doesn’t even make sense. Peach is pretty grim but at least it makes sense as a name......

PuppyMonkey · 26/12/2017 13:48

I quite like Peaches Smile

... but sorry OP not at all keen on Pelagie or Polly.

RickOShay · 26/12/2017 15:55

I also like Peaches
