Loretta?

Loretta, nickname Lottie, wdyt?
I don’t like the popularity of Charlotte and DH not fond of Carlotta. Is Loretta sweet?

I kept reading bad comments about it and I wanted to see if anyone else thinks it sounds as sweet as I think. Personally I never came across it before looking to see what name could Lottie be a nickname for.
I like its unusualness and refreshing to see that Sarah Jessica Parker used it, love her style and it is not popular at all

I love Loretta Lynn and Loretta Swit.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/12/2017 21:24

I think it was myself who suggested it. I know a very lovely young Mum with this name, I think it's lovely.

blueskyinmarch · 19/12/2017 21:27

My friend's mum is called Loretta. To me it conjures up alcoholism with a whiff of Catholic repression. Sorry.

OliviaStabler · 19/12/2017 21:28

I think of Cher's character in Moonstruck. Lovely name.

Mum8 · 19/12/2017 22:06

blueskyinmarch Sorry to hear that, is your opinion related to how your friend’s mum is? Read in a name book that the name reminds of someone who drinks and smokes heavily and of course that kind of discouraged me... I like the name though and the Etta ending too and Lottie connection

I don’t like Loretta. But I honestly don’t know why... is there a ‘famous’ (infamous) Loretta? Sorry Confused

Etta and Lotta are both lovely on their own imo.

RavenWings · 19/12/2017 23:09

I think it's lovely. I'd probably call her Etta/Ettie for short.

ColinsVeryJolly · 19/12/2017 23:11

Just makes me think of her Grin

Loretta?
Ecclesiastes · 19/12/2017 23:11

Gosh, yes, Cher in Moonstruck. Wonderful.

Buxbaum · 19/12/2017 23:26

It's quite pretty but completely unusable if you live anywhere with glottal stops instead of 't's.

C4rollinandventing · 19/12/2017 23:33

I have a Loretta who is in her twenties, she loves her name. She was the only one in her school, never shortened it but did sometimes get called Lorie by her friends.

DaisysStew · 19/12/2017 23:33

EachandEveryone · 19/12/2017 23:36

I adore Loretta its very Anerican to me a d it does make you think of a country singer or a broad working in a diner or bar. Nowt wrong with that! I think Sarah Jessica Parker has a Loretta

mummymummums · 19/12/2017 23:40

ChocolateCrunch · 20/12/2017 07:19

Sorry, not a fan. Not sure I'd use Lottie as a nn, possibly Lori or Etta though

Ivehadtonamechangeforthis · 20/12/2017 08:39

I Love it! Lovely potential shortenings too, love Etta.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/12/2017 09:13

I find any names ending in Etta very harsh.

Smoliver · 20/12/2017 13:52

I like it. I like names that end in Etta and I like the idea of giving her the nn Lottie.

dontcallmelen · 20/12/2017 21:23

I have a cousin called Loretta, we call her lolly.

iamthefox · 20/12/2017 21:36

“My name is Loretta, but I prefer Lottie...” Makes me think of The Curse of Milhaven by Nick Cave & the bad seeds. I like it.

usernameinfinito · 20/12/2017 21:43

Cleveland’s wife.

1805 · 21/12/2017 00:35

Life of Brian scene instantly sprang to my mind too!

kangamam · 21/12/2017 00:56

Yes ColinsVeryJolly that was my thought too! I can't read it without saying it in Clevelands voice in my head.

EachandEveryone · 21/12/2017 09:47

I’d like it fir my next cats name

Fakingit36 · 21/12/2017 14:37

Second verse of Get Back by the Beatles. I like it.
