Just wondering as you can use Lottie and Tillie for Ottilie.

Can you not get nickname Lottie out of Matilda too?

I know this is usually a nickname for Charlotte

Lottie doesn’t seem like a natural nn for Matilda. But a nickname doesn’t need to be derived from the given name imo....

Carlotta is lovely, btw :)

LeahG94 I only asked as I read that Lottie could be a nickname for Ottilie and I could not see how and as I liked Matilda more which shares the same nickname of Tillie as Ottilie I wanted to see if Matilda could be Lottie as well, as I like that name more than Ottilie but not fond of Tillie.

Regardless I like Carlotta now, growing on me as the other option. Charlotte is also lovely but we know many Charlottes...

I was coming on to say Carlotta! But you beat me to it, beautiful name!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/12/2017 18:14

You can get Lottie, from Loretta.

Carlotta makes me think of car lots. What about Matilda Charlotte? Lots of friends of mine are known by their middle names to their friend's.

MaggieFS · 19/12/2017 18:26

I love Carlotta and if DP is Spanish, that's even better!

ManInTheMoonMarigold · 19/12/2017 21:05

Clotilde / Clothilde / Clotilda has the same ring as Matilda but the 'lot' sound you are looking for to make Lottie

MrsSchadenfreude · 20/12/2017 06:40

But then the nickname would be Clot, or Clottie! Grin The only Clotilde that I know goes by the nickname of Clo.

pipilangstrumpf · 20/12/2017 08:48

And Clo means loo in German Shock

Mum8 · 20/12/2017 10:55

Grin Guess you can never win, that was funny, made my day 😉

Love Carlotta! Like a PP it reminds me of the Spanish girl from the Enid Blyton books who was passionate and vivacious and I thought she was super cool when I was twelve Smile I've always liked the name since then.

kaytee87 · 26/12/2017 20:36

I'd go with Matilda Charlotte

Caulk · 26/12/2017 20:41

My friends daughter is Mary, but her nickname is Polly. She is named after a great grandmother who had the same nickname and name.

You can just choose a nickname if you want!

susurration · 02/01/2018 12:34

You can get Mattie, Tilly and Tilda from Matilda.

Em, no one else sees anything wrong with this comment earlier:
" If you said your child was Matilda and you call her Lottie we would all look at you like you had a third head"? Just me?

I agree with the majority, if you want a short form name, then Matilda to Lottie is very tenuous and would likely lead to the child dropping it altogether as soon as she got sick of the inevitable questions.
