How would you pronounce Katia?

Or Katya?

Would you pronounce them the same?

Thanks!

Probably the same.

CatInTheChristmasTree · 16/12/2017 21:34

No, I would pronounce Kaita as 'kay t a'.

I would pronounce Katya how it's spelt: 'kat ya'.

IHeartKingThistle · 16/12/2017 21:34

I would probably pronounce them both like Kat-ya but you might get a few Katie-a pronunciations with the first spelling.

I love this name either way.

CatInTheChristmasTree · 16/12/2017 21:36

Or Katia could be pronounced 'kat e a'.

MummyBearToOne1988 · 16/12/2017 21:41

Katia = catty ya
Katya = cat ya

IreneWinters · 16/12/2017 21:49

Katia - 3 syllables
Katya - 2 syllables

My Dd is Katja. She gets calked kat-ee-ya, katcha, kasha but very rarely kat-ya!

AlmostChristmas · 16/12/2017 22:12

I'd say Car-tee-arh got both spellings.... I could be terribly wrong though 😬

Zaya71 · 16/12/2017 22:22

Thanks all. I really like Katia pronounced Kateeah, but having had a lifetime of people mispronouncing my name I'm not sure about it!

Katia = Kat ee ah
Katya = katcha

kaytee87 · 17/12/2017 12:17

I'd pronounce katia as kat ee ah and katya as kat yah

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 17/12/2017 12:26

I prefer the spelling Katya and would pronounce it Kat ee ah.

daisypond · 17/12/2017 12:48

I'd pronounce both as Kat-ya.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/12/2017 13:53

I know a Katia - she pronounces it Kat-ya

Jenna43 · 17/12/2017 19:26

Katia - Kat ee ah
Katya- Kat-ya

lljkk · 17/12/2017 19:28

The one I sent to school with was KA-tee-uh (spelled Katya).

NoSquirrels · 17/12/2017 19:30

I think Katya is more easily recognised and the pronunciation unmistakable.

Katia I’d instinctively understand was the same, but my brain reads it as Katie-a.

horatioisabrick · 18/12/2017 23:49

Katia = kuh tee uh

Katya = ku tya

Katja = kuuhteeuh
