What are your thoughts on the name Finnian for a boy?

We like Finn but want a full name and are not keen on Finley, Finbar, Finnegan, Phineas but i quite like Finnian. We also have some Irish heritage and I like the fact it's the name of an Irish saint

I like it. I also know a Finntan if that's any use.

17caterpillars1mouse · 14/12/2017 13:23

Not a fan of Fintan either I'm afraid

I don't like it. But I suppose if you're going to call him Finn it doesn't really matter anyway.

MikeUniformMike · 14/12/2017 14:41

Finn is a full name. If he's only going too be called Finn, call him Finn.

pipilangstrumpf · 14/12/2017 14:41

Finnian is better than Finn, a person from Finland.

CatInTheChristmasTree · 14/12/2017 16:50

It's not to my taste, but it's not offensive.

I'm sure he'll be one of many in his class at school. Finn is so popular.

IJoinedJustToPostThis · 14/12/2017 16:51

Finisterre?

villainousbroodmare · 14/12/2017 16:52

V nice, though Finn is a full name too! Usually spelled Finian.

glitterbiscuits · 14/12/2017 16:53

Finnian’s Rainbow! A lovely old film.

Ugh nicer than Finn. There are lots of Finley’s about

MiniMaxi · 14/12/2017 16:53

We had Finn on our shortlist and decided to just go with Finn. (Those we went with something else in the end!)

Finian is my preference for longer version too - haven't seen it with two n's but sure it's a valid version!

twinjocks · 14/12/2017 16:54

The usual spelling would be Finian, with one middle N. I'm not a fan, but it's your name to choose, OP!

Smoliver · 14/12/2017 20:29

I like this name and it is on my shortlist too. I worked with a boy once with Aspergers who was named this and he was a very sweet boy, so I've always had positive associations with this name ever since.

jennip2027 · 28/01/2020 11:09

Hi there, did you choose this name in the end? I really like it and have been considering it for if we have a boy. I have been worried it's a bit out there but I do really want something unusual so I think it works.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 29/01/2020 23:23

I love Finnian. My favorite is Fintan but I saw you dont like that. People also use Griffin.

TatianaLarina · 29/01/2020 23:35

I like Finian. But he will get called Finn regardless.

Traditionalwife · 30/01/2020 09:23

I prefer Finnian to Finley if that helps.

MikeAlphaMike · 30/01/2020 18:42

Finnan? Scottish place name.

TatianaLarina · 30/01/2020 20:55

I prefer Finnian to Finley if that helps.

Finian/Finnian is an Irish saint.

TatianaLarina · 30/01/2020 20:55

Me too I meant to say. Much prefer it to Finley.

Whatsyourflava · 30/01/2020 21:04

Finnian/Finian also means 'fair/white', do you think it matters of the child does not have fair hair? I would love to use the name but doubt my child's hair will be blond

17caterpillars1mouse · 31/01/2020 09:54

I unfortunately lost the baby I was asking for at 19 weeks. I did however go on to have another baby but she was a beautiful baby girl so no Finnian
