Zayda

After scouring list after list of names and OH and I thrashing out likes and dislikes we came across the name Zayda. Not sure we can use Angelica with it but we think it sounds lovely has a nice meaning and doesn't sound too sing-songy with our DD Nancy. Too far out for a typically British surname? I tentatively really really like it.

If you love it then go for it! Personally I don't like it. Sorry!!

Battleax · 13/12/2017 02:04

Zay-der? Or Zy-E-der?

ladybug92 · 13/12/2017 02:07

What does it mean? I think it's nice and different :)

Battleax · 13/12/2017 02:10

If you lose your nerve then Nancy and Zelda make a nice (flapper era) pairing.

RefuseTheLies · 13/12/2017 02:14

Zara as an alternative?

DarthMaiden · 13/12/2017 03:06

Ummm...

Smacks of trying too hard tbh and frankly, however you pronounce it it's not attractive because it's "hard" sounding in the "za" and "da".

Reminds me a bit (a lot) of Lord Vader.

But hey, if you want to embrace the dark side and have a child nicknamed "Sith" then crack on.

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/12/2017 06:53

I really don't think it fits with Nancy but if that doesn't bother you then it's nice enough. I think I prefer it spelt Zaida though

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/12/2017 11:12

Nancy and Zayda Angelica.
I ❤️ It Bunty. 😄

TatianaLarina · 13/12/2017 11:25

I prefer Zayna (usual Arab spelling Zaynab) or Zara.

OhMyGoddd · 13/12/2017 11:33

It's great because you can buy her this mug

Queenofthedrivensnow · 13/12/2017 11:38

It's Yiddish for grandad!!!

What about Zadie.

QuiteLikeable · 13/12/2017 11:42

It's alright - my friend has a Zora which I think sounds a bit gentler.

SleepFreeZone · 13/12/2017 11:43

I like Zara, don't like Zayda though m, sorry.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 13/12/2017 12:07

Prefer the spelling Zaida but yes, nice with Nancy.

StiltonForDays · 13/12/2017 12:08

I have a fondness for Z names. Never heard Zayda before, sounds vaguely Arabic? Not overly into it I have to say.

Zora is ace, though.

HuskyMcClusky · 13/12/2017 12:11

My friend has a Zeta. I prefer that to Zayda.

NauticalDisaster · 13/12/2017 12:50

I immediately thought of grandfather! It's a Yiddish thing :-D

Joinourclub · 13/12/2017 12:55

I like the suggestion of Zadie.

Snowman41 · 13/12/2017 13:00

Zay-der? Or Zy-E-der?

Where are you getting the ER sound from?

The name ends in an A which would give the sound AH

OP, I really like it

Battleax · 13/12/2017 14:35

The name ends in an A which would give the sound AH

Is this an accent thing?

Samantha, Mathilda, Sara, Natalia, Alexandra, Xenia, Isabella etc all end an "er" sound.

Doingthebattybat · 13/12/2017 15:21

Yep, Yiddish for Grandpa. Because my mind went straight to this I couldn’t get past it as a name. It also sounds a bit like Darth Vader/Zader so there could be issues with getting teased about it.

lorelairoryemily · 13/12/2017 15:26

@Battleax it must be an accent thing. All those names you listed end in AH not ER. Samantha, not samanther.

Battleax · 13/12/2017 15:29

I'm trying out accents now Grin

I can make it an "ah" in a kind of cod-Essex but I'm struggling for others.

Snowman41 · 13/12/2017 15:56

Samantha, Mathilda, Sara, Natalia, Alexandra, Xenia, Isabella etc all end an "er" sound.

They really don't. They and in AH. That's why the have an A on the end?

Why your you say samanther?

Buntysoven · 13/12/2017 16:20

Thank you Sugarpie and Snowman ❤. Doesn't rhyme with Vader round here I can assure you all! Yiddish for grandad?! Well that didnt crop up in our research. Hmmm. Really dislike Zeta and Zora. Will mention the grandad thing to OH and see if it fazes him. Thanks for the input.
