A middle name to signify Europe (before we leave...)

Call me a sentimental old fool/a remoaner/snowflake/whatever but DH and I are quite conscious that our son, due in Jan, could be born in quite possibly the last full year that we are EU members. I’d quite like to find a middle name that gives a farewell nod to Europe somehow (but isn’t too overboard like ‘Erasmus’ or ‘Europe’!). Had a look through the founding fathers for ideas but given we are both British we’d be looking at Winston Churchill - erm, not really doing it for me.

His first name is going to be Rudy and his big sister is called Maya. Surname starts with a T.

Any ideas, oh wise ones? Hmm

Heath?

Theworldisfullofidiots · 14/12/2017 00:04

Guy after Guy Verhofstadt.(standing up for citizens rites)
Erasmus (most likely to go much to my dcs chagrin)
Europa (if a girl)

Pax

Because the whole original point was peace and togetherness.

LineyRunner · 14/12/2017 00:04

I quite like 'Twelve'

tava63 · 14/12/2017 00:06

By the time he is 18 we will be full members. How about Pax - the EU for me is the greatest peace project.

Jean-Claude

Or even Juncker?

peppalongstocking · 14/12/2017 00:15

Adrian

  • means "of/from Adria" which was an ancient river in mainland Europe that flowed into the Adriatic Sea
MrsHathaway · 14/12/2017 00:31

Lol SnowBalls I am even within ten feet of one Grin

But a name that has to do with the founding principles of the EU is definitely the way forward. There must be any number of names signifying peace, cooperation and unity.

FartnissEverbeans · 14/12/2017 02:32

Pax will get called Tampax I think. Otherwise it's a cool name

NotAgainYoda · 14/12/2017 06:49

Levi gets my vote. Cool name

Asa means Hope

VivaLeBeaver · 14/12/2017 06:51

Cameron!

BrizzleDrizzle · 14/12/2017 06:55

Unitatis is Latin for unity.

Cactusjelly00 · 14/12/2017 06:58

Hi op,
Are you aware that the uk isn't actually leaving Europe? We'll still be geographically located within Europe as a country - in the same way that Ukraine is, for example. The EU is a political union, not a social one.
I'm not trying to patronise you, just reassure you that any future children/you/your son are still of course European.
The eu and Europe are two different things.
Sorry if you already know this by the way. Don't mean any offence. I'm a remainer and it's made me sad recently, too. But I refuse to lose my European identity.
Smile

Maastricht.

Kittykatmacbill · 14/12/2017 19:45

Unity is beautiful and the nicest of the virtue names, but the oddest of the Mitford sisters.

I like pax it means peace.

Happpydays · 14/12/2017 20:08

Pax is a really lovely idea Smile

Sgtmajormummy · 14/12/2017 20:23

Thomas (Aquinus)?
(Saint) Francis?
Alexander (the Great)?

Sgtmajormummy · 14/12/2017 20:32

Sorry, AquinAs.

Or from the Arts:
Leonardo (da Vinci)
Ludwig (van Beethoven, wrote the European anthem)
Wolf(gang Amadeus Mozart)

MikeUniformMike · 14/12/2017 20:35

Heath is the best suggestion so far.

Cameron is not the name to pick. He's the man who didn't have a plan B.

PrincessoftheSea · 14/12/2017 20:35

Lol @ Schengen

StealthPolarBear · 14/12/2017 20:40

Pax is great but surely you just have to go with Erasmus. It's awesome.

TheCarteDOrElephant · 15/12/2017 19:20

Erasmus is a great name.
