What would you call him?
Really struggling for names, we don't like the tradition names either Grin

James. In my (Muslim) family we don't do religious names at all and make a point of choosing names that are suitable to whatever country we are raising the children in.

FartnissEverbeans · 29/11/2017 15:28

But loads of people have Arabic names in the UK - I don't see how they would be 'unsuitable'...?

I live in a Muslim country - Saif seems to be very popular for boys here just now and I like it a lot. Friends have considered Zaki, Rafi, Yahya

Whoever suggested Suleiman I second that what a great name!

I’m not Muslim, but I like names which cross boundaries so aren’t obviously of a specific religion- just so the child can’t be pigeonholed for stupid reasons really. Zain and Rohan fit that brief. Also Idris. And I once knew a lovely chap called Neal which also is known in several religions.

Pepperboxx · 05/12/2017 16:43

My son is called Zain. Having a daughter this time and I like the name Zara or Eliza.

Pepperboxx · 05/12/2017 16:44

My friend called his son Nayel which I think is great.

inuinnit · 07/12/2017 12:15

My brother is Kamran but he pronounces it like Cameron. It's convenient because even people who aren't familiar with more unusual names recognise it as a name, and shortens easily to Kam. I also hear it used less than Zain.

I also like Hani.

pipilangstrumpf · 07/12/2017 15:44

I think it's lovely to pay tribute to your heritage and choose a name from your culture.
How dull if we all chose the same names. Nothing wrong with James but it's a little bland imo.
