We found out we are having a boy but now we need to agree on names. We both loved the idea of using our grandads names Stanley or Thomas. DH loves Stanley (His Grandad’s) but I’m undecided. I think I like it but not sure if I’m undecided just because it’s not my grandads name. Or am I just being hormonal and unreasonable 😂

Thomas. I don't like Stanley

Crunchymum · 25/11/2017 14:40

I prefer Thomas too. Definitely more classic (Stanley is very "on trend")

Glumglowworm · 25/11/2017 14:52

Thomas is much nicer, I really don't like Stanley

Tinty · 25/11/2017 15:00

Thomas Stanley is lovely.

IsadoraQuagmire · 25/11/2017 15:51

I've always liked the name Stanley, Thomas is nice too. I think it's a lovely idea to be named after your grandfather(s) I have my grandmother's name as one of my middle names.

Movablefeast · 25/11/2017 15:56

Tommy when he's little. Thomas and Tom won't date but Stan will be stuck as a early 21st century revival name.

MammieBear · 25/11/2017 16:11

Fab choice! Smile

Ropsleybunny · 25/11/2017 16:12

I love Thomas or Tom but I don't like Stanley.

stellarfox · 25/11/2017 22:50

Love Stanley! It’s definitely having a come back. Thomas is a classic so you can’t go wrong, but I’d use Stanley up front.

stopbeingadramallama · 25/11/2017 23:09

I have a Stanley x

WoolyMammyoth · 26/11/2017 08:04

Both lovely. Thomas Stanley and Stanley Thomas both work, too Smile

My DS's middle name is Stanley, I didn't think I loved it until DP suggested it when we were still stuck on names after he was born (we tried it as a first, but it didn't suit him there)

MummyToBeSD · 26/11/2017 08:29

Thank you all for your responses and for being honest.
We liked the idea of using both names but recently I noticed Stanley Thomas with our surname starting D would give the initials STD!!!
I guess it’s just Stanley (no middle name) or Thomas Stanley. Or maybe when we meet him neither one will feel right and then we can start all over again.
Finding the right name has got to be one of the hardest and most important choices we have ever made 🙈

Eenymeeny123 · 26/11/2017 08:34

I think Stanley is lovely on a 2 year old but not so much on a 16 year old. Stan is the same to be honest, while Thomas is cute on a 2 year old and Tom is a cool name for a teen. So Thomas Stanley would be my choice.

FergalBurgal · 26/11/2017 08:36

Awww love a baby Stan.
Stanley Thomas works well.

Patal · 26/11/2017 19:29

I much prefer Stanley Thomas however I do see your point about it being about his grandfather. Is there perhaps a way of including your Grandfathers name as the middle name. Thomas is neither here nor there so if it has no sentimental reason other than that you like it perhaps use your grandfathers name instead

RuthW · 26/11/2017 20:28

Stanley is more popular than Thomas at the moment.

SuperBeagle · 26/11/2017 21:10

Stanley is more popular than Thomas at the moment.

Statistically, it's not.

Thomas was at no. 9 in 2016, Stanley was at no. 65.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 26/11/2017 21:19

Is Edward an option? Also a blue engine. As was Gordon

pipilangstrumpf · 26/11/2017 21:19

Thomas is way more popular! There's two in my kids classes.

SparkleMotion82 · 30/11/2017 13:56

I don’t love Stanley...I prefer Thomas

Joeybee · 03/12/2017 01:56

Stanley is the most gorgeous name. Go for it! Stanley Thomas is uh-ma-zing!

toughgetsgoing · 05/12/2017 09:10
