Leila should be Lyla or Layla - it's Arabic, but the Leila I know Leela

SuperBeagle · 23/11/2017 21:48

Leila is lay-la, the same as Layla.

Lila is lie-la, as in "lie down".

Leia is lay-ah, as in Princess Leia.

Lia is lee-ah, the same as Leah.

Pemba · 23/11/2017 21:51

Leila = Lay-la
Lila = lye-la (although lee=la is also a legitimate pronunciation)
Leia = lay-a (I think, didn't they pronounce it this way on Star Wars, actually wasn't this name made up for Star Wars?)
Lia = lee-a

I'd pronounce Leila LAY-ee-LA. With the 'ee' part being short and subtly pronounced. Almost not noticeable. Rather than a flat Lay-lah.

NotAgainYoda · 24/11/2017 05:44

What Amy said

I also like this (Biblical) spelling Leah (Lee-ah)

NotAgainYoda · 24/11/2017 05:45

Lia - haven’t come across this before, but I’d guess like Leah (so Lee-ah)

eachtigertires · 25/11/2017 14:05

Leila - Layla
Lila - leelah (to rhyme with Mila)
Leia - laya
