Finn or Louis?

Baby boy is due in a week and a bit and we can’t decide between these two names.
Surname will be a long-ish double barrel (neither of us will back down on the surname) so I like that they’re both short names.
I feel like Finn is more cool, but quite popular whereas Louis is more classic. I’m genuinely afraid that we might have to flip a coin after he’s born!

I would go Finn purely because Louis is unisex unless you were going for that.

euanthesheepiloveyou · 16/11/2017 00:26

You are right - Finn is cooler but also more popular at the moment. Louis is lovely (rising in popularity too I think)...like them both but I think I'd go Louis.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 16/11/2017 00:28

How is Louis unisex?

Babymamamama · 16/11/2017 00:33

This doesn't help but I love them both. Would probably pick Louis though.

DramaAlpaca · 16/11/2017 00:35

Louis is unisex? That's a new one on me.

I like Finn better, in fact I love it. I wasn't having any more babies so I used it on the dog. But don't let that put you off Grin

I'm surprised as a girl can be called louis as well as a boy. I have a friend whose a girl and called louis

BikeRunSki · 16/11/2017 06:14

Louis

Not unisex - are other posters thinking of Louise?

Bella8 · 16/11/2017 06:15

Just realised She is Lois though so no u. Must be a u on of for a boy

Bella8 · 16/11/2017 06:15

if

ChocolateCrunch · 16/11/2017 06:16

Finn. Louis is quite popular atm.

LadyWithLapdog · 16/11/2017 06:19

Louis. I think Finn will date.

pipilangstrumpf · 16/11/2017 07:06

Louis is pronounced Lou-is but sometimes Lou-ee. That might bother you?

Finn is ok but reminds me of. person from Finland

HettyB · 16/11/2017 07:14

Some interesting responses here...

I like both.

For clarity, to me Louis is pronounced Lou-ee, is not unisex, and is an entirely different name to both Lewis and Lois.

uncoolnn · 16/11/2017 07:19

I like both but I think Finn just edges it Smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 16/11/2017 07:22

Really like them both.

Louis and Lois are two very different names Confused.

I think with double barrelled surname Finn just edges it for me.

Jedbartletforpresident · 16/11/2017 07:26

I would also read Louis as Lou-ee. If you want Lou-is then I'd spell it Lewis.

Finn is very popular where I am (Scotland) although I would say more with the 7-15 age group - it seems to be dropping in popularity a bit in the last few years. Almost all the Finn's I know (in fact, all but two I can think of) are actually Finlay/Findlay but use Fin/Finn in normal day to day. I guess it gives them more options when they're older. (I also know A LOT of Finlay/Findlays who go by their full name - like I said - very popular up here)

I only know a couple of boys called Louis but know a ton called Lewis (ranging from late teens down to toddlers) - it's been popular in scotland for a long time and doesn't show much sign of waning.

pipilangstrumpf · 16/11/2017 07:47

You may read Louis the French way, but many won’t. Just be prepared for Lou-is, that’s all.

NauticalDisaster · 16/11/2017 07:50

Definitely Finn. I find Louis quite a boring, forgettable name.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 16/11/2017 07:51

I have a Fynn, 13 and very cool!!

FlexTimeCheekyFucker · 16/11/2017 07:59

Finn. It won't date. Gentle giant. Lovely.

TheNaze73 · 16/11/2017 07:59

They’re both very Hollyoaks 2002. I prefer Finn

SavageBeauty73 · 16/11/2017 08:02

I have a Finley.

ButtMuncher · 16/11/2017 08:02

Finn is lovely. I have a Finlay - but often shortened to Fin as I imagine it will be the rest of his life (he's 14 months old). It was the only boys name we were absolutely 100% on and I still love it.

sluj · 16/11/2017 08:12

Both are lovely names and very popular amongst year 9 to 13s I know. Could they have had their day?

sluj · 16/11/2017 08:13

Both are lovely names and are relatively cvommon amongst my 16 year olds friends. Could they be passed their peak?
Lovely strong names anyway
