Trying to pick a name for DS. We are thinking Malachy or Frank? Both very old names so I'm a little worried about the reaction they will get. Any opinions?

I like Malachy

They'll be at school with Freddie's, Alfie's and Harry's. Old man names are popular, no one will bat an eyelid at a Frank or Malachy

Malachy. I know an awesome little Malachy and it can be shortened.

Ooh, really like Malachy/Malachi, OP!

Out of interest, are you pronouncing it MAL-uh-kai (to rhyme with eye), or MAL-uh-kee?

Frank's not bad, but I prefer Frankie.

Pronouncing it Mal-a-kee...alot of people I have said it to have looked at me funny and said its very old.....so unsure. Confused

Malachy is the Irish name pr. MAL-a-kee, Malachi is Hebrew pr. MAL-a-kai. I really like Malachy!

They’re both great classic names! Cool and not overused.

Malachy

Malachy. I'm not keen on Frank, but I do quite like Francis, however.

AnyaMoondial · 27/10/2017 17:22

I like Frank.

MegAndSprog · 27/10/2017 19:33

Malachy is so lovely! I much prefer it to Malachi (though people will probably try to pronounce it the same so be prepared to correct a lot if you go for it!)

I like Malachy. First heard it in the film Angela's Ashes. The brothers are Frankie, Malachy, Michael, Eugene, Oliver and Alfie.
