Aubrey or Arlo?

As a sibling for Ava , Felicity and Rueben ? Middle name would be Francis .

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Arlo.

SuperBeagle · 22/10/2017 21:33

Aubrey is common for girl in the US and Canada, and if I heard of an Aubrey born in 2017, I would assume that they were a girl.

So Arlo, even though it's incredibly trendy and will date (especially compared with your other childrens' names, which are all more classic).

LockedOutOfMN · 22/10/2017 21:34

I thought Aubrey was a girl's name.

I know 9 boys in the UK/USA named Arlo who are aged under 18 months. It's a nice name, very popular (it seems).

slingbat · 22/10/2017 21:35

I thought Aubrey was unisex ! But I’ve never met anyone with either of those names . I don’t really want a super trendy name either . Maybe back to the drawing board !

ARLO.

Doggington · 22/10/2017 21:52

If you look at the ONS baby names statistics you will see Arlo was the fastest rising boy’s name ever this year. It’s clearly the name of the moment and I would worry it will therefore become very dated.

I also thought Aubrey was a girls’ name. Maybe it’s unisex. But it sounds very feminine.

LadyPug · 22/10/2017 22:48

Aubrey was a traditional boys name and has been hijacked by girls but I think it’s lovely for a boy. Personally I feel Arlo is a bit trendy

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2017 23:02

Arlo. Yes it's trendy, but it's much nicer than Aubrey.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 22/10/2017 23:02

Arlo is really nice, OP.

Arlen/Arlan as an alternative? (Irish meaning: "vow/pledge/oath").

Otherwise, Luca is of a similar feel.

EnidClowes · 22/10/2017 23:04

I know a few Arlo's it's a lovely name but I really like Aubrey. It has a lovely ring and is unusual nowadays

2014newme · 22/10/2017 23:06

Aubrey sounds too much like Audrey, very feminine. Arlo I'm put off because of the character in Justified, it's become a hillbilly name to me because of that series. But if you don watch the series it may not have that connotation.

tempstamos · 22/10/2017 23:08

I really like Aubrey, Arlo is nice but it doesn’t fit in as well with your other kids names. Two of my sons have unisex names ( Harley and Beverley ) and they have never had any problems for having a ‘‘girls name’’

HaHaHmm · 22/10/2017 23:31

Aubrey is a boys’ name.

ShotsFired · 22/10/2017 23:39

I had a male uni lecturer done 30 years ago called Aubrey. He was 60 if he was a day.

His nickname was Strawbry.

Arlo is very trendy and now and will date just as fast.

Have you a third option at all? (Hopeful)

Sophronia · 23/10/2017 00:03

Aubrey. Arlo is very trendy and will date.

DiegoMadonna · 23/10/2017 00:48

Arlo. Although maybe not if you don't want a super trendy name!

Anything is better than Aubrey for a boy though. Yuk.

ifcatscouldtalk · 23/10/2017 00:53

Arlo if you live no where near Harlow in Essex.

ShotsFired · 23/10/2017 08:16

By the by, I always thought Reuben was spelt like

Joinourclub · 23/10/2017 08:25

I really don't like the name Aubrey. I really do like Arlo but it is v 'now'.

Are you after an ''A' name?

Angus
Ambrose
Anton

Names I like that I think match your others:

Milo
Hugo
Sebastian
Quentin
Otis

slingbat · 23/10/2017 08:25

No other options really so far . I did like Leonard but it’s very popular where I live atm .

Rueben is usually spelt Reuben - unfortunately when dh went to register him alone he misspelt and we ended up with the wrong spelling !

HunterHearstHelmsley · 23/10/2017 08:36

Arlo out of the two. Literally only because I'd consider Aubrey to be a girls name.

ShowOfHands · 23/10/2017 08:40

I love Aubrey which to me has always been a boys name. It's like Sacha. Always a boys name but hijacked and appropriated.

Much prefer Aubrey. Arlo is a bit too trendy.

Cockmagic · 23/10/2017 08:43

Sorry but I don't think they go with your current children's names!

TheFirstMrsDV · 23/10/2017 08:47

Aubrey is NOT a girl's name.
I have no idea if its meant to be unisex but I do know its a male name.

ChocolateCrunch · 23/10/2017 08:50

Aubrey, lots of Arlos atm.
