If you have a Merryn...

Do people usually have to ask how her name is pronounced or spelt?

Expecting DD in 4 weeks time and it's the favourite name on our list for both me and DH, but with it being more unusual (certainly round here anyway, as never come across one) and the potential for uncertainty over spelling and pronunciation I'm wondering if we're better to go with one of our other names.

I think it looks lovely written down but I do think it will continually be misheard as "Merry"...or even "Deryn"

I wanted merryn for my DD but DH didnt like it .

I pronounce it as spelt mer-ryn. DD would have been a merry though.

I have a Merryn. Always loved the name. We are in Scotland and I will say that people frequently call her 'Mirren' which is a popular Scottish name. And we usually have to spell it. But I still love it.

We nearly went for Merryn, until we realised that every time she introduced herself she'd have to say, "I'm Merryn," and the M would run on so that everyone would always think she'd said Erin!

Thanks for your replies :) Hadn't thought about the pronunciation Meh-rin. Going to keep hold of the other three names on our short list I think in case we change our mind when she arrives.

I can't work out how to pronounce it other than M-erin?!

Anyway, I love it. It's particularly festive feeling too. Don't think I'd have been able to resist if I had a December baby.

Like LoveDeathPrizes says, we'd be pronouncing it as Erin with an M in front. I assumed Meh-rin was more like the sound of May at the front.

I read Meh-rin as M-Erin 😂 wouldn’t have bought to pronounce it any other way. Gorgeous name.
