English middle for Spanish first name

... I think. I posted ages ago for inspiration for a girl's name as we have a mixed family and need a name that works in Spanish, Russian and English. But we're having a boy!!

First name we're set on Gonzalo, and the surname is a Spanish surname, 3 syllables, also starts with G.

I think I'd like a middle name that sounds very standard in English, that baby can be known as (if he wants to) when he grows up without raising any eyebrows. The front runner was Nicholas, but then yesterday I came across Isidor, which I thought sounded amazing! So now I'm being more open minded....

(DH is keen on nonsense like Zeus for the middle name- I think he's just winding me (and our mothers!) up, but I'd definitely consider something really unusual and a bit ridiculous too. We'll only get to name this baby once!)

Does anyone have ANY insights or ideas please?!

I wouldn’t say Isidor is ‘standard’ in English if that’s what you’re after, I’ve never known one of any age. Nicholas is lovely - few babies around called Nicholas now so not super common but a name everyone will definitely know.

George would be good !

I presumed Isador was an alternative to Gonzalez, if you intend it as the very standard English name you're way off the mark.

No, no, sorry- my point was that Isidor is definitely not an English name but I love it anyway, so maybe a Spanish name would be okay... (the next baby can be George Henry or something to "make up" for it??)

Not so keen on George- too many Gs. Robert is cute!

I know a Spanish Robert, also Tomas/Thomas.
Also quite a few British Luca and Marco about. But Luke/Mark would work for Spanish relatives.
I know a pair of brothers who are Spanish/Dutch heritage and live in an English speaking country. They have Lorenzo, Xavier and Diego. (Can't remember the other middle name)
For a girl, Sofia is top 100 in both Spain and Russia I believe.

Personally I would steer clear of Gonzalo in the UK. He's a famous character in The Tempest and it's not a particularly flattering association. Gonzo is the obvious shortening and refers to a) the bird in the Muppets and b) a kind of amateur porn.

@Ninon; Gonzalo has been in the family for generations, so it's a non-negotiable, I'm afraid! Other family members have not had any issues with it in the UK, although we are definitely aware of the associations you've mentioned.
