Yes it is. Not sure if you’re looking for more suggestions but Bryn, Ellis, Evan, Glyn, Gwyn, Idris, Ivor, Morgan, Owen and Rhys could work?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 11/10/2017 15:56

Gwilym is nice !

stripysleeves · 11/10/2017 15:59

Is Bryn an actual Welsh name?

It's a lovely sounding word, but isn't it the Welsh for hill, and a word that has been adopted by the English as a "Welsh" name in recent years?

Or did I imagine that?!

dontflametheOp · 11/10/2017 20:41

Ok great yes up for other suggestions. We have a DS already so his name is already mentioned.

I strangely like Gwilym but we are far from Wales and I get some weird looks when I say my current DS' name already.

I'm not keen on Cai as have a couple of friends already with sons with the name (but I didn't realise it was WelshI

Quite like Elis but is this a girls name now ?

I have a Gwilym and we don't live anywhere near Wales. Everyone copes just fine.

Akire · 11/10/2017 20:45

It sounds lovely welsh name see famous singer Bryn Terfel! Wyn also means pure/white so always meanings.

OohLookASquirrel · 11/10/2017 20:53

Dewi?

Needmorehands · 11/10/2017 21:09

The only Wyn I know is Welsh, living in England. The nicest guy you could meet :)

AuntLydia · 11/10/2017 21:12

Ianto
Dafydd - daf for short
Macsen - Macs for short
I've always loved Gruff too.

I don't like Wyn personally, although I can't put my finger on why - bit old mannish maybe? Although I do know a baby Wyn.

dontflametheOp · 11/10/2017 21:21

Aunt those are proper Welsh names everyone here would calling him Ian toe rather than 'yanto' around here.

I like Dewi a lot, but my DH doesn't like it. He says the name was a character on an American comedy about a kid. I don't know which one.

Socks that's good to know ! I don't know why, but I feel like having one son with a short name means I have to give the next one a short name too. Maybe I'm over thinking this?!

Huw

WyfOfBathe · 11/10/2017 21:30

I know a Welsh Wyn in England. Owen & Rhys are other Welsh names which seem quite common in England.

singadream · 11/10/2017 21:33

Love it

Dixiestampsagain · 12/10/2017 00:35

Elis is definitely a boy name. What about Harri or Tomos?

CeriBerry · 12/10/2017 01:00

Bryn is definitely a real Welsh name and not just a Welsh word adopted as a name by the English. Definitely a name

Dixiestampsagain · 12/10/2017 01:03

Bryn was my bamp's name - proper Welsh!

Spam88 · 12/10/2017 01:04

I'd avoid Dewi if you're in England. It seems like it'd be easy to pronounce, and yet when I knew a Dewi in uni I didn't hear a single English person pronounce his name correctly.

PattyPenguin · 12/10/2017 11:12

dontflame is you DH thinking of one of Donald Duck's nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie?

Dewi is pronounced de (as in 'den') - wee, with the emphasis on the de part, not like Dewey, which is of course dew (the drops on grass) - ee.

Although English speakers are quite capable of saying De - wee, I bet most wouldn't.

dontflametheOp · 12/10/2017 18:07

I didn't realise Dewi was said De wee, I'm not Welsh myself. Actually I don't like it as much now too much weee. I bet it sounds lovely from a Welsh speaker.

I quite like Bryn ( as very like Wyn) & Huw

Why are you looking for a welsh name if you aren't welsh and don't live in Wales?!

sparechange · 12/10/2017 18:19

OP, Dewi was the little brother in Malcom in the Middle!
