Like Wyn prefer Bryn.

Gethin makes me think of that quite handsome Tv presenter. DH vetoed this name last time around.

His suggestion is Bran .. but that must be a shortening.

Quite like Carwyn but unlike Huw, Dylan or Rhys no one around here will recognise the name.

Dylan is too Bob Dylan for me though. Choosing names is tough Grin

Geraint.

Agree that Wyn us often a second name, but still like it. Dewi is more like DOW-EE in pronunciation. My favourite Welsh boy's names are Iestyn and Brychan... But my boys have English names as DH and I are Saes

TittyGolightly · 13/10/2017 21:28

Gwilym = Gwill-im

MonaChopsis · 13/10/2017 21:30

I would avoid Dylan, Huw and Rhys if you aren't Welsh speakers... The difference in pronunciation is quite marked with those three.

Osian? Pronounced OSH'n is a lovely name and easy to pronounce once you know how.

dontflametheOp · 13/10/2017 22:05

Osian is too similar to our very Welsh surname ... hmmm could be a novelty. Makes me think of a lion! What was the lion called in the chronicles of Narnia?

My uncle is called Wyn, I like the name. Easy to spell, easy to read, easy to pronounce. Go for it!

TittyGolightly · 14/10/2017 14:23

Aslan is the lion.

MikeUniformMike · 14/10/2017 19:12

Gwilyam ? I think you mean Gwilym. Osian is pronounced
Osh-an
the an sounds like the an in English can, the stress is on the OSH bit.
Huw sounds like if someone who pronounces their Ls like Ws trying to say Hill.

Dylan is very dated if you are Welsh. Dylan pronounced Dillan is an anglicised version and is a bit cha...

MikeUniformMike · 14/10/2017 19:14

Dewi is like if someone who pronounces their Ls like Ws trying to say Delly

MikeUniformMike · 14/10/2017 19:14

or Deli
