Lillian. Nickname Lily. Then when you shout 'LILLIAN!' They know they're in trouble Grin

Amd724 · 09/10/2017 23:17

I LOVE both. Our second option for a girls name was going to be Lillian as her formal name, and Lily as her nickname. She’d be named after her great great grandmother.

SuperBeagle · 09/10/2017 23:17

Lillian.

We have a Lily, but contemplated Lillian. Ultimately, her full name sounded nicer with just Lily than it would've with Lillian.

Liadain · 09/10/2017 23:17

Lillian. Because if she prefers Lily to Lillian, she can nickname herself that - but it's harder to do that in reverse.

I much prefer Liliana to Lillian, though! Lillian reminds me of Lilliput. And I think Liliana is nicer looking when written.

Lillian. I'm a grandma and I sing a lot to my DGC. Lillian's a great name to sing.

DramaAlpaca · 09/10/2017 23:21

I'd go for Lillian with the nickname Lily.

I think I prefer it spelled Lilian though.

Rach5l · 09/10/2017 23:21

Yes I agree Liliana sounds prettier but gg grandmother Lillian & dad dead against Liliana he thinks sounds ade up & not traditional Hmm

My dd is a Lilian. Named after dh's nan. She was Lily from everyone (friends, family and teachers) for many years, but then decided to use Lilian for everything formal, with her friends mostly calling her Lils. Partly because Lilian is pretty unusual but Lily is common and she wanted to be the only one.

Lily Smile

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/10/2017 23:41

Lily. Lillian is awful.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/10/2017 23:43

Lilian

Ropsleybunny · 09/10/2017 23:45

Sophronia · 10/10/2017 00:43

Lillian

Mum2OneTeen · 10/10/2017 02:01

Lily (but I'm biased, DD is Lily)

Don't see the point of officially naming her Lillian if you are going to use the name Lily anyway.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/10/2017 03:05

Lily

Inneedofacookeddinner · 10/10/2017 08:58

Lillian but I also love Lilith :)

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/10/2017 10:11

Lily, it's classic and beautiful.

I’m thinking in case she’s in a class with a million Lily’s or she grows up not to be flowery! Or for her CV or whatever. It’d be nice to think employers don’t judge but they definitely do!

Lilian. If we have a dd next, it will be her mn :)

Monkeypuzzle32 · 10/10/2017 19:16

Lillian, it was one of my favourite possible names but doesn't sound right with our surname! I like the fact it's more unusual and you can still use Lily which I also love but is obviously more common.

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2017 19:25

Lily is much nicer than Lillian. Liliana sounds a bit try hard. They all end being Lil.

scrivette · 10/10/2017 19:27

I don’t usually usually like double double barrelled names but heard of a Lily-Ann today which sounds really pretty.
