I like it. The only Fionn I've heard of is the model Fionn MacDiarmid. I'd pronounce it Fee-own.

I know a Fionn (in England if it helps). I thought it was a great spelling when I first saw it Smile

I'm Welsh and when I read the post I initially thought you'd misspelled Ffion and that you were talking about a girl.

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/10/2017 09:29

I think you're quite likely to run into pronunciation issues with both Ffion and Fionn in England to be honest. Surprised so many English (?) posters know how to pronounce Ffion on this thread!

I wouldn't use Fionn personally because I'm Welsh and it's awfully close in looks, if not pronunciation to Ffion. Much like I imagine an Irish/NI person would use Fionn but not Ffion for the exact same reason.

However, Ffion and my Welshness aside - I like Fionn.

I live in Wales so girls name Ffion was my first thought as I know several

In other parts of the uk that's less likely to be the case though

Every Tom Dick and Harry is called Fionn in Ireland

Except the ones called Tom, Dick or Harry? Grin

Foggymist · 09/10/2017 16:41

I'm Irish, I really dislike that name, it's just an ugly harsh sound to me! Only ever known 3, one in his 30's, a 4 year old and a newborn.

GaucheCaviar · 13/10/2017 17:41

word to the wise: fion means arse in French.

Appuskidu · 13/10/2017 17:46

I would assume you meant Ffion and that it was a girl. I don't like it at all and I think you'll have a lot of explaining to do throughout their life-as this thread has shown!

Wishingandwaiting · 13/10/2017 17:47

No, it somehow seems unfinished.

Mrsknackered · 13/10/2017 17:55

I like Fionn.
Not a fan of Finn/Finlay though.

TheVanguardSix · 13/10/2017 17:57

Nope.
