Albert or Alfred?

Really struggling with boys names! Surname starts K so whilst Frederick is our favourite it doesn't flow properly.

I like nn Albie, Bertie, Freddie but don't like Alfie.

We have ages to chose but these are the only two names we both vaguely like!

How about Frederic K..... ?
I'm sorry, I'm not overly fond of the other two, but love this name.

CormoranStrike · 03/10/2017 17:49

Don't love either of them, but marginallyptefer Albert.

MaroonPencil · 03/10/2017 17:53

I like Albert better.

Chaffinch4 · 03/10/2017 18:08

I wouldn't choose Alfred if you don't like Alfie. Even if you don't call him that, others might well and he might choose that nn for himself later on.

I like both names though.

Albert Smile

CakesRUs · 03/10/2017 18:48

Albert. Not keen on Alfie either.

2014newme · 03/10/2017 18:51

Neither sorry
What about alexander, alistair, aidan

Sophronia · 03/10/2017 20:16

Albert

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2017 20:18

Don't like any of them

If you want to avoid Alfie then you can't use Alfred. Albert it is!

MikeUniformMike · 03/10/2017 20:19

Why not just call the boy Freddie?

pilates · 03/10/2017 20:21

Albert, love Albie

Threeandabit · 03/10/2017 22:47

Alfred

ABitOTT · 03/10/2017 23:19

If you like Freddie but cannot use Frederick, use Alfred & call him Freddie from the start. That should stop anyone calling him Alfie.

Personally I prefer Albert/Albie.

Thanks everyone!!! Still no closer to deciding but really good hearing other opinions

Alfred is lovely! Not so keen on the other. Plus you can abbreviate to Alf rather than Alfie....

SevenDwarfWharf · 04/10/2017 20:05

Albert, Albie by a mile

Bunnyears85 · 04/10/2017 22:35

Albert!!! Brilliant name!

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2017 22:41

As others have said, if you don't like Alfie you'll have to avoid Alfred.

So of the two I'd choose Albert.

However, I don't think you should rule out Frederick if you really love it, even though your surname begins with a K. He'll probably end up as Fred or Freddie most of the time anyway so it really won't matter.

bridgetreilly · 05/10/2017 00:12

Wilfred nn Fred

Thelostsock · 05/10/2017 21:27

Wilfred came up today actually! Not sure if I like it as much as Albert which I'm now swaying towards. Thanks everyone! It's really good to get uncensored reactions rather than from friends and family who (mostly) are too polite

I like Alfred. I love an Anglo-Saxon name. We got boring with names after the Normans showed up. Edmund, Ealdred, Wulfric, Wulfnoth, Aethelstan, Selwyn- all brilliant names. Then the Normans came along and everyone was Robert, William, John or Henry.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/10/2017 22:07

Its a no brainer. If you don't like Alfie

It has to Albert, as Alfie is a more obvious nn for Alfred than Freddie.
