opinions on this name please, I heard it and I cant decide if I love it or is it too weird?

also initially would you think its a name for a boy or a girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MiniMaxi · 03/10/2017 12:58

Hmm I can't decide either. Makes me think 70's America for some reason! And I think I would assume girl.

strawberrypenguin · 03/10/2017 13:00

My immediate response is Cassidy Yates from Star Trek Deep Space 9. I like it

squoosh · 03/10/2017 13:01

It's an Irish surname. But if I heard of it as a first name I'd assume it was a girl.

MrsNai · 03/10/2017 13:04

...and the Sundance Kid?Smile

Radom · 03/10/2017 13:04

My Daughter is 9 and called Cassidy we love it and we get compliments on her name saying it's lovely some do shorten it to Cassie tho

Muddlingalongalone · 03/10/2017 13:09

I love it, but I think it is a bit marmitey.
The only real life Cassidy's I've known are both Australian - maybe it's more popular over there

JaneJeffer · 03/10/2017 13:12

It reminds me of The Middle and Axl's song Oh Cassidy when he sets the trellis on fire GrinI like it

kingfishergreen · 03/10/2017 13:34

I like the sound of it, and the shortening of Cass, but there's something about the actual name (maybe its written-form) that I don't love. But I don't matter - so if you love it, do it.

Oh and I'd presume girl.

PandaCat · 03/10/2017 14:01

I know a Cassidy, she's a girl, I wouldn't have thought it as a boy's name ever.

PandorasXbox · 03/10/2017 14:04

Nah. It's reminds of the dreadful Riley and McKenzie type names.

NameChangeFamousFolk · 03/10/2017 14:08

Nah. It's reminds of the dreadful Riley and McKenzie type names

I thought that I would think this, but I don't. It's totally not my style at all, but there's something about it that I quite like.

It reminds me of Piper. Not my style, and I 'shouldn't' like it, but I do.

And yes, a girl's name.

RhonaRugMuncherr · 03/10/2017 14:27

I rather like it too for a girl and, of anything, I have very pretentious taste in names (or so I'm told by DP - he vetoed my dream of a dd called Araminta Grin)

Dustbunny1900 · 03/10/2017 14:35

makes me think of 70s america yup Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid lol.
The name makes me think of cowboys, the southwest, and it's a blond name.
Girls name though, to me

NikiBabe · 03/10/2017 14:37

Im a trek fan.

All I think of is Cassidy Yates from Deep Space Nine.

Marcipex · 03/10/2017 14:45

I know a Cassidy, male and about 30.

Sophronia · 03/10/2017 14:50

I prefer Cassandra or Cassia for a girl and Cassius, Casper or Caspian for a boy.

Horseshoe1 · 03/10/2017 19:42

I have met one American female Cassidy. And although ordinarily I hate American surname names for girls, I actually like this one. It sounds great, and Cassie is lovely.

C0untDucku1a · 03/10/2017 19:44

My first thought was eva cassidy.

If you like it go for it.

Loopytiles · 03/10/2017 19:46

Awful.

Loopytiles · 03/10/2017 19:46

In the vein of Sawyer.

harrietm87 · 03/10/2017 19:48

Yet another Irish surname (Riley, McKenna, Murphy) that Americans have adopted as a first name and making its way over here as a trend. If you're Irish/to an Irish person it sounds stupid, the equivalent of calling someone Smith, Jones or Bloggs.

harrietm87 · 03/10/2017 19:49

Why not call her Cassie? (Ie an actual girl's name)

GhoulsFold · 03/10/2017 19:49

Have you been watching Preacher OP?

RaininSummer · 03/10/2017 19:50

I think I like it.

Yika · 03/10/2017 19:54

I like it and I think it is fine for a boy or a girl.
