What flows better?

We've picked a three syllable first name for our DS and have a single syllable surname.

Our current favourite middle name is also one syllable, which I thought sounded ok at first but now I wonder if it sounds a bit chopped off and harsh. I thought of a different middle name with three syllables which seems to flow better, but the original middle name means more to us.

I realise flow isn't the most important thing, expecially as middle names aren't often used but it's still a consideration.

Not actual names but basically like

Oliver John Smith

Vs

Oliver Joshua Smith

Oliver John. Single syllable middle name works best.

FindTheLightSwitchDarren · 01/10/2017 13:08

I like Oliver Joshua Smith, but I happen to love a long middle name.

Peeetle · 01/10/2017 14:02

I like the 3-1-1 sound

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/10/2017 14:24

Definitely your first choice.

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 01/10/2017 14:25

Oliver John
I like Oliver Joshua but it's a bit of a mouthful

IWouldLikeToKnow · 01/10/2017 14:26

Jenna43 · 01/10/2017 14:37

Oliver John is lovely.

Peeetle · 01/10/2017 14:40

I like the 3-1-1 sound

Spam88 · 01/10/2017 14:49

Oliver John sounds better, but that might be because Oliver and Joshua end with the same sound rather than because of the number of syllables 🤷‍♀️

BikeRunSki · 01/10/2017 14:57

Oliver John

CakeRattleandRoll · 01/10/2017 15:05

3-1-1 sounds better to me.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 01/10/2017 15:07

Oliver Joshua is just too much of a mouthful.

Olivelor · 01/10/2017 15:15

Oliver Joshua sounds interesting than the very famous John IMO.Wink

Lemondrop99 · 01/10/2017 16:00

Oh well that's really interesting! Thanks for all the replies. Looks like we'll be fine sticking with our original 1 syllable middle name.

Doesn't matter.

Pick the name you like.

It's very rare that the whole name will be said out loud like that.

What about James?
