Thoughts on these names...

What do you think of the following names for boys and girls. Am excited to be thinking of names again, and have a problematic husband who has seriously suggested Allan among others(apologies to any Allan's)

Boys:
Henry
Robin
Matthew
Ivo
Claude

Girls:

Rosalind/Rosa/Rosie
Sylvia/ Sylvie
Violet
Cleo
Carys/Carrie
Flora

I like Robin, Claude and Allan!

Carys is lovely and I like Flora too. Violet always makes me think violent...

Love Ivo. I think it sounds best in a Scottish accent though. If you're Scottish definitely choose this one!

Henry and Matthew are good names, just a bit blah.

Not keen on Robin. Def not Claude.

I like Cleo and Flora best from the girls, but they're all nice names.

Boys:
Henry - I like this.
Robin - no. Always think it sounds very wet on a boy.
Matthew - lovely, favourite of your list
Ivo - I want to like this but I keep thinking the child will be teased with Iva...as in I've got a.
Claude - very different from the other names. No from me unless you have some sort of French link.

Girls:

Rosalind/Rosa/Rosie - I like Rosa and Rosalind. Rosanna?
Sylvia/ Sylvie - no
Violet - I like this
Cleo - car/ cat. No.
Carys/Carrie - I like Carys, it's my favourite of your girls names. I always think of the Stephen King story when I hear Carrie.
Flora - nah

That is so weird - I was just reading Bath Tangle by Georgette Heyer this morning and thinking "you don't get many Ivos nowadays." In fact I was going to start a "if you had to name your child after a Georgette Heyer character which would you choose."

Anyway, my favourites from your list are Ivo and Rosalind, also love Robin

Itd be nice to see Allan back again. My dad was an Alan named after Alan Ladd.

I find Allan very dated tbh and don't think it's due a comeback for a while yet. Though, based on this thread, maybe I'm wrong there!

I like Matthew and was considering it for our dc2, but really don't like Matt, so have discounted it.

I like Robin and Henry too.

Sylvia, Cleo and Flora are nice. I don't like Violet or Carys, though I do like Carrie as a nickname.

I'd put Allan, or, better, Allen, well ahead of Robin, Ivo and Claude, which all sound very flimsy and girlish to me. I love Matthew. I like all of your girls' list apart from Violet.

I love Henry for boys. The rest are not for me.

Girls, I like Rosie or Rosa, Carrie is ok, I don't mind Flora and Cleo is nice.

I love Henry, Matthew is ok , don't like the other boys .

Girls I quick like Sylvie and Violet , Carys reminds me of a little bully in my daughter's class in reception .

Ivo or Henry (quite like Robin as well)
Flora or Violet (maybe Sylvie after that)

The only name I dislike is Cleo. I know one of about 4 years old and she's lovely, but I'm always aware that I just really don't like that name.

Good lists though OP!

Thanks for replying. It's good to hear opinions other than dh. I will tell him of the small section of strong support for Alan. He will be encouraged.

I love the name Violet! I can't use it as I had a dog called Violet but I really do think it is a lovely name!

Carys is awful, Violet Vile-et, Sylvia I don't like at all although Sylvie isn't too bad.
Rosalind is lovely, and I like Rosa and Rosie. Prefer Clio to Cleo but like it. Flora is nice but maybe a bit stuffy.
Viola is nice.
