Thalia / Nathan

We are expecting our second dc in May and we are stumped for names. Our ds is Theodore James Matthew. The best we can come up with is Thalia for a girl and Nathan for a boy. Are these a bit naff?

How would you pronounce Thalia?

Nathaniel and Theodore would be lovely together.

You've got loads of time to decide though op!

Flumplet · 29/09/2017 11:24

Btw Theodore normally goes by Theo for short.. sometimes Teds if relevant. Welcome any suggestions? I also like Tabitha for a girl but DH isn’t keen.

Yes I know we’ve got ages Smile just looking for other suggestions as we liked Florence for a girl the whole way through last time and got to waiting for c-section and decided I hated it with no back up option. Fortunately Theodore was perfect for ds and could never imagine him being called anything else.

I like Nathaniel but know it is shortened to Nat often and I’m not keen - like gnat Confused

They're fine - especially Thalia, which is also the name of the most elegant little pure white narcissus so she'd have her own classy flower.

Flumplet · 29/09/2017 11:35

Ooh thanks errol i didn’t know that!

Thalia is on our list too, its lovely but I'm a little put off by the Tallie nn it could come with. Plus it seems to be getting very popular. Still a gorgeous name though.

Nathan is nice too, and I don't think very popular at the moment which for me adds to it's appeal.

Have you thought of: Rosalie, Bethan, Jonathan?

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 29/09/2017 11:39

The only Nathans I know who shorten it are called Nath, not Nat.

SueGeneris · 29/09/2017 11:39

I have a Nathan - I like it.

If you like Thalia and Nathan how about Natalia?

Flumplet · 29/09/2017 11:40

No I’m not keen on Tallie / Tally nn either - Tilly I could cope with but not tally. Forms middle name I’m thinking of Rose because it’s actually my maiden name and I miss it. For a boy I’m thinking of Samuel?

SueGeneris · 29/09/2017 11:42

Yes - my Nathan is shortened to Nath (pronounced Naith), or Nate (tho I've mostly avoided that as a friend has a Nate). DH does also lengthen it to Nathaniel.

Flumplet · 29/09/2017 11:43

I like Nathaniel but perhaps need to rethink Samuel as middle name in that case

Both names are nice but I much prefer the Talia spelling. To me, Thalia seems like it should be pronounced with a Th sound like The

Lemondrop99 · 29/09/2017 15:38

Lia is a nice shortening for Thalia if you're trying to avoid Tally

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 29/09/2017 22:35

Well, I'm not biased or anything, but.... Wink

Yika · 29/09/2017 22:38

Thalia and Nathan are both gorgeous names.

some names that have a similar feel to me

Tamara
Nadia
Raphael
Asher

Flumplet · 30/09/2017 19:05

I like raphael but it clashes with our unusual last name. Think we’re going to go with

Thalia Emily Rose

Or

Nathaniel Henry George

It’s tradition to have 2 middle names in our family.
