Florence...too popular now?

I have a Constance, nn Connie and like Florence as a potential name for our next DC if we have a girl (due soon) but I can't decide if it's too popular now?
I love that we don't know any other Connies!
Has anyone got any more suggestions?

Constance is beautiful! Classic but not trendy.

Florence has become quite fashionable lately and will likely continue to rise up the charts (before eventually falling out of favour and sounding dated).

Fluteytootey · 27/09/2017 09:29

That's exactly what I'm worried about. Are there any other names that go well with Constance?

I'd really advise not calling your dd florence if you already have a constance. It will sound very samey and twee.

Floella?

Mayhemmumma · 27/09/2017 09:31

Everlynn
Jocelyn
Erin

2014newme · 27/09/2017 09:32

Florence is lovely but Flo really isn't. I'd go with something with a nicer shortened version

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/09/2017 09:36

Cadence
Clementine

NotTheCoolMum · 27/09/2017 09:36

Emily goes nicely

Chaffinch4 · 27/09/2017 09:52

Constance is lovely, but i agree with pp that constance and Florence are too similar somehow. What about?
Esther
Rachel
Clementine
Catherine / Katherine
Vivienne
Natalie
Madeleine
Josephine
Primrose

Summerswallow · 27/09/2017 09:53

Don't call your children similar names, I did and when I'm tired I really do use the wrong ones all the time. Josephine is a beautiful name- in fact, l like most of the ones on Chaffinch's list, although I wouldn't want to be called Primrose myself!

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 27/09/2017 09:57

Too same-y imo, and Constance is classic whereas Florence is a bit trendy right now.

I like Juliet, Emmeline, Catherine, Rosalie and Dorothea. Just some ideas Smile

Manpoo · 27/09/2017 10:06

Florence is top 20 now.

Flora
Polly
Penelope
Ottilie

Fluteytootey · 27/09/2017 10:11

You're all confirming my suspicions! DH really likes Florence - I'm going to need to show him some really good alternatives. I've suggest Penelope and Iris but he didn't like them.

I have 4 DC eldest is 12. Don't know a single Florence!

Constance & Madeleine, Constance & Emmeline both sound lovely.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2017 10:11

Just seen a comment on another thread that said. "There are 6 Florences in my ds nursery, ", so. What does that tell you.
Other suggestions.
Constance and
Claudia. Vivienne. Meredith. Felicity
Matilda. Mabelle. Dorothy. Rebekah
Alexandra. Josephine. Arabella. Aurora. Lucinda

Summerswallow · 27/09/2017 10:11

Rose is a beautiful name, and Rose and Constance are a classic and beautiful pair.

Fluteytootey · 27/09/2017 10:11

This is what I suggested

Penelope
Beatrice / Beatrix
Florence
Mabel
Erin
Phoebe
Nora (h)
Coral
Iris
Cadence
Flora
Jemima
Ottilie
Hailey

PETRONELLAS · 27/09/2017 10:13

Harriet nn Hattie?
Jessica
Clementine

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/09/2017 10:13

Juliette. Rosabelle. Theresa. Margaret. Victoria. Abigail

Smoliver · 27/09/2017 10:17

Constance is a gorgeous name, but I agree with the others.

Some alternatives I like...

Flora (I've heard people use this as a nickname to Florence)
Fern
Celeste
Daphne
Minerva (shorten to Minnie - Connie and Minnie sound cute)
Beatrice/Beatrix
Penelope (Connie and Penny)

Smoliver · 27/09/2017 10:19

Just saw you list Fluteytootey Haha we have similar taste. I also like Phoebe, Nora and Hailey from your list

MiriAmmerman · 27/09/2017 11:59

Florence is much more popular than Constance. Avoid it if that bothers you (although it's a good name). Names which I think have a similar feel are:

Josephine
Alice (also quite popular, and likely for royal baby)
Martha
Clara
Georgina
Emmeline
Sylvie
Harriet

MammieBear · 27/09/2017 13:14

Millicent Nn Millie would be a good choice.

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/09/2017 19:55

What about Floriana similar to Florence but much less common and doesn't sound similar to Constance which is a beautiful name

Fluteytootey · 27/09/2017 20:14

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I'm going to sit down with DH and have a chat tonight.
I'm finding it so much harder this time. I keep worrying that I'm going to pick the wrong name...I'm not sure that's normal, is it?

Yes far too popular. I chose Florence as I wanted a name that wasn’t in the top 100, and now 20 years later it’s in the top 20. I’m very peeved!
