Is it awful?

I know of one; the actress Emerald Fennell who's the daughter of jeweller Theo Fennell but I fear it's a bit.....

...stripper-y?

I love it!

IJustGotHitByADeer · 21/09/2017 22:07

Personally I really like it, but DH and I do have rather unconventional taste. Think there’s a Jacqueline Wilson character called Emerald but I may have misremembered.

MikeUniformMike · 21/09/2017 22:08

I think it is fine.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 21/09/2017 22:09

Emerald Cunard.
I rather love it as a name much to my surprise.
Surname though? Won't work with Smith

LuxuryWoman2017 · 21/09/2017 22:11

Or Green of course!

Ktown · 21/09/2017 22:12

Love it

troodiedoo · 21/09/2017 22:14

Love it, was on my shortlist. Most jewel type names are lovely.

llangennith · 21/09/2017 22:17

Love it

euanthesheepiloveyou · 21/09/2017 22:18

Really love it. Lil Em! But a much cooler shortening than for Emily, Emma, etc.

TheLegendOfBeans · 21/09/2017 22:19

See it's funny @trudiedoo

I don't really like any precious stone names like Ruby, and I think Sapphire (for instance) sounds really "eurgh".

But Emerald just seems to be different

God awful.

troodiedoo · 21/09/2017 22:22

Ruby is quite common at the moment. Sapphire has that saff sound that doesn't appeal to everyone, particularly depending on your accent. Emerald has a nice flow. Go with it!

troodiedoo · 21/09/2017 22:24

Pearl? Topaz? Diamond? Amethyst?

TheLegendOfBeans · 21/09/2017 22:27

Amethyst is another but

a) it sounds too fancy
and on that note....
b) it's Iggy Azalea's real name

So another veto Smile

I love this name. It's (one of) my guilty pleasure name. I was served by someone in a shop who had this name and I've loved it ever since. Plus, I love Emerald Fennell in Call the Midwife.

We already have a Jade and Ruby in the family, so might as well carry on the tradition. Also, my Mum was born in May, which birthstone is an Emerald, so if I were to use it to honour her.

I also like Esmeralda, which is Spanish for Emerald, or Esme for short.

Smoliver · 21/09/2017 22:35

@IJustGotHitByADeer you're right. She has a book out called Emerald Star.

user789653241 · 21/09/2017 22:39

I wanted to name my child if it was a girl and born in May. I love the name. I had a boy. I used that name for one of my game character instead.

Greenday90 · 21/09/2017 22:40

Sound a bit hard to me. The same way Harold sounds a bit heavy/hard sounding.

jjgg · 21/09/2017 22:40

Sorry it does sound a bit strippery. She would also end up being called Em almost certainly.

manicinsomniac · 21/09/2017 22:56

I like it.

Similar to Emma, Emily and Emilia but much more unusual and quirky.

I see it as Artsy/Eccentric/Earthy/Hippie/Vegan rather than Stripper

Puffykins · 21/09/2017 23:02

LOVE it. I have an Esmeralda...

troodiedoo · 22/09/2017 04:49

b) it's Iggy Azalea's real name

Well I never knew that! Grin

user327854831 · 22/09/2017 05:25

It's a gem of a name, go for it.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/09/2017 05:39

First thought? Stripper name.

SuperBeagle · 22/09/2017 05:44

I think it's awful.
