Favourite spelling of the name Beau

Just found out we are having a girl, our favourite name is Beau but I am stuck on the spelling as since Beau has become more popular as I know a few boys called Beau and that spelling feels more like a boys name to me.

I really like Bo but husband hates the fact that when she spells it, she will have to say B O as in 'I have bad BO'. Do get his point to be fair.

Then there is Bow but to me that just looks like an object rather than a name.

Which do you think is best?

My favourite spelling of Beau is Oliver.

AvDemeisen

Iseabeau is a lovely name, but it's pronounced Ishbel. So Bo would be a very weird nickname for it.

PavlovaTescobar · 21/09/2017 19:49

Don't do it. Your child will have a lifetime of slagging. I second the poster who thought that the child will be nicknamed BO.

purpleme12 · 21/09/2017 19:51

Honestly, I like the name Beau for boys. I always think it's a bit strange when I hear of girls called Beau - because I always think of beau for boys because that's what it is in French, it's masculine and that's what I always think when I hear of girls being called it.

ThisIsntMyUsualName · 21/09/2017 19:53

There's a little girl called Beau in ds's class. We live in a town where you can see France. There have been lots of raised eyebrows but as far as I know no one has queried it. I do feel a bit sorry for the little girl as I think it really is one of those few names which immediately indicates the intelligence of the parent. Please consider something else.

Mamadramalama · 21/09/2017 19:59

Boux? Bowe? Don't know if any of these are better options!
I went to school with a Bo but her name was actually Zoe, her parents always called her Bo and I didn't realise her 'real name' was Zoe until we were all in our 20s
Zoe would be a "great name but just call her Bo option" :) (if you like Zoe that is ofcourse)

endofthelinefinally · 21/09/2017 20:13

Please just use a girl's name for a girl. Your daughter will appreciate it.
After all she has to live with it.
I think it is unfair to choose a controversial name for a child. Nobody wants their child to be teased or worse.

Did you go to a big school in Central London? On the southern end of the Victoria Line?

Pickleshickles · 21/09/2017 20:25

I know an infant female Beau and I judge her parents silently but harshly.

Plink42 · 21/09/2017 20:27

My daughter is called Bo & it's a pretty name- not one person has ever mentioned it being B...O SMELLY.
Call ure baby girl Bo u won't regret it.
Good Luck 💖

Not to your face they haven't. Few people are that rude.

Kellyturnbull · 21/09/2017 20:40

I like the name Bo ⭐️💗
Such a cool, cute, quirky name for a girl and I would never think of B.O
I know a few little Girls Bo's and I also know a couple with the spelling Beau,
Makes me think of Bo derek and there is also an American actress Beau Garret, google her if you don't know she's fab and gorgeous too :).
Quite like suggestion ^^ of Boux? Also Zoe would be a fab name to nn Bo.
I do love the name Bo and if you love it too then go for it x

TatianaLarina · 21/09/2017 20:45

Bo is also short for Boa Constrictor, Bojangles and Bodacious.

littlecabbages · 21/09/2017 20:46

If you really love the name then I would choose Bo for all the reasons above.

Have you considered Bibi ? I know it’s completely different but along the same lines maybe?
I so would’ve had Bibi but my surname is similar to Bambi so it’s just toooooo much Grin

MikeUniformMike · 21/09/2017 20:51

Isn't Beau French slang for blow job?

howthelightgetsin · 21/09/2017 20:52

Another one who would be wondering why you'd called your daughter a name meaning handsome MAN.

And Bo on its own just seems like a really cute nickname??

DermotOLogical · 21/09/2017 20:54

The pet "semetary" comment says it all.

SabrinaSalem · 21/09/2017 20:57

Bo is Scandinavian. It's a really common men's name. I'd automatically think of a middle aged Danish bloke, sorry!

Agree with PPs that maybe it could be a nickname for something longer if you're really keen on it

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 21/09/2017 20:58

You know it's spelt incorrectly for a reason, right?

I'm completely against the name Beau for all the reasons already stated, but your post makes no sense.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 21/09/2017 20:58

Barbara?

Bo/Bro as a nn.

TatianaLarina · 21/09/2017 20:58

That's Beaujean but it's not really French which is - pipe, turlutte, sapeur pompier

ChampagneSocialist1 · 21/09/2017 21:10

Bao ( pronounced Boh in cantonese) is a common Chinese name and means treasure or precious. It's also unisex

Baojin means precious gold in manderine
Pron - bow jin

existentialmoment · 21/09/2017 21:30

Bao also means "steamed filled bun".

AdalindSchade · 21/09/2017 21:30

Boux wouldn't be Bo it would be Boo. Please don't compound the thickoness with a faux French spelling that doesn't make the sound you think it does!
