Thoughts on Millicent? Do you know any?
Also how many Milly's do you know?

Milly's okay. I'm not super thrilled about it. I only know of 2. I can't stand Millicent. It sounds like a witch.

LostwithSawyer · 20/09/2017 20:37

Love millicent hate milly

littlecabbages · 20/09/2017 20:45

I’ve not heard of it before. I would assume a boy for some reason Confused

stellarfox · 20/09/2017 22:08

Not keen. Prefer Camilla nn Millie

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/09/2017 22:10

I love it. If I had a dd she would be Millicent.

DramaAlpaca · 20/09/2017 22:10

Millicent just makes me think of millipedes.

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/09/2017 22:11

Millie's and Milly's all over the place, not come across any Millicent's nn Millie as far as I know.

I always rather liked Camilla nn Millie as a pp has already mentioned but should I ever use the name Camilla, I'd now strongly lean towards no nickname, because Millie is so commonly heard including on my dog

TatianaLarina · 20/09/2017 22:49

Have a friend called Milly. Much prefer it as stand alone name than as dimin of Camilla or Amelia.

It's probably more common now than it was when we were growing up. In the 80s it was quite unusual.

Liadain · 20/09/2017 23:04

I think it's awful. As mentioned above I always think of millipedes and witches. It's just not got a nice sound imo.

Liadain · 20/09/2017 23:04

Oh, and I know two Millicents. Both primary age. One goes by Mimi and the other has no nickname.

indigo13 · 20/09/2017 23:07

It's a beautiful name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/09/2017 23:11

Wasnt that the name of the wicked fairy in Sleeping Beauty

sonlypuppyfat · 20/09/2017 23:14

We call front bottoms millys in this house

Buttercupsandaisies · 20/09/2017 23:15

Too similar to malificent the wicked witch

NuffSaidSam · 20/09/2017 23:17

I don't like Millicent. It sounds like militant. It's very harsh sounding. The witch link is from The Worst Witch I think....they were called Maud and Millicent.

I know a few Millie's. but not loads and all between 5 and 12. No little ones.

I do know about 20 dogs called Millie though.

BeBeatrix · 20/09/2017 23:23

Such a beautiful name, and I love that it's both traditional and unusual.

PointlessUsername · 20/09/2017 23:26

I only known 1 Millicent, she is 14.

I really Like it but Millie i am not so keen on

MrsApplepants · 20/09/2017 23:36

Love Millicent, not so keen on Millie

euanthesheepiloveyou · 20/09/2017 23:42

Don't mind Millicent (although I do hear 'militant' which is quite harsh)...but a Milly/Millie is a bit of a derogatory term for a girl in parts of N.Ireland so I'd personally avoid it for that reason. Still quite like it though!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/09/2017 23:44

Ah Maleficent, that's it

Rogue1234 · 20/09/2017 23:46

I know a Millicent nn Millie who's in her 20s. I think it's lovely!

NameChangeFamousFolk · 21/09/2017 01:22

I quite like it, but Milly as a short name is a bit wishy-washy. I love Maud!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/09/2017 01:34

The Worst Witch was Mildred, not Millicent.

It is a magical name though now you mention it - there's a not very nice one in Harry Potter, and a lovely one in Chrestomanci (although she's technically an enchantress I think).

MammieBear · 21/09/2017 08:44

It's a lovely old fashioned name for a girl

SuperBeagle · 21/09/2017 08:49

Don't like it at all. Frumpy, harsh sort of name.

Millie is fine though.
