not naming a baby any time soon, just weirdly curious, i was reading online and it appears naming girls (and boys) surnames is quite trendy now. I can think of Riley, Quinn, what else?

It's from old tradition in the US South about giving a woman's maiden name as a middle name to her children. Many people ended up being called that middle name in practice. DH's family is from the South and most of his extended family go by their middle names (which all come from the long family tree going back to England/Scotland) which are technically last names.

The mc/Mac trend for girls names did rather astonish me a few years back when I first came across it. It would make sense for boys but I do find it rather strange for girls.
