Generally I like virtue names but not keen on Honor as it sounds like "on her".

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/09/2017 07:25

It's nice enough on somebody else's child

I know of a 6 year old Honor. I don't think wow that's weird but equally I don't think oh what a lovely name

user1492670647 · 17/09/2017 07:40

Yes it's spelt as Honor all over the world as a name I think which is confusing as the word's usually spelt Honour in the UK.
Really like Madeleine and nn Maddie but makes me think of Madeleine McCann so chose it as a middle name which balances Honor as it's frillier and longer.
Honor Blackman seems like an inspirational lady thedowagercuntess!

allegretto have you heard of people having a lot of issues with this joke due to the sound of the name Honor? I have heard about it and would like to know how much of an issue this is.

I really like it and we considered it. In the end I decided against any virtue names as it seemed a lot to live up to!

pigletpie29 · 17/09/2017 07:55

Love it! Was on my list but OH wasn't keen.

demirose87 · 17/09/2017 08:05

One of my old school teachers was Honoror. I think thats slightly better than Honor, but not sure I like either.

Jooni · 17/09/2017 08:12

It's lovely - strong, classy, unusual.

Honor Madeleine sounds beautiful!

Sallywiththegoodhurrr · 17/09/2017 08:22

It's a beautiful name. I wanted it for DD1 but my DH has no taste Hmm

autumnkate · 17/09/2017 08:25

Absolutely love it. Perfect name- unusual
But not made up, lovely sound and meaning.

dementedma · 17/09/2017 08:28

she offered her honour
he honoured her offer
and all night long
he was on her and off her....

sorry, I'll leave now.

PinkFlamingo888 · 17/09/2017 08:32

I think the spelling would annoy me. I know you've said it's spelt Honor even in the U.K. but to me the word is honour and Honor just looks incorrect.

user1492670647 · 17/09/2017 08:35

Do you think the on her and off her thing is going to will cause Honor receive a lot of jokes and comments like mentioned by dementedma?

Honour Harris of Lanrest - main character in Du Maurier's the king's general. Amazing character - makes me love the name! Go for it!

FiaclaBui · 17/09/2017 08:55

I like it. I know one.

WeazerSqueazer · 17/09/2017 08:59

My daughter is Honor... I think it's beautiful and unusual. People very very rarely misspell it but mainly it gets compliments

user1492670647 · 17/09/2017 09:03

Aw thank you for all the lovely comments on the name!

AmyGardner · 17/09/2017 09:16

Honor is beautiful.

allegretto · 17/09/2017 09:45

I haven't heard any jokes OP. I just don't like the sound of it.

bridgetreilly · 17/09/2017 13:48

I think it's a great name and honour is one of those virtues I'd really want my child to live up to. Honor Madeleine is a lovely combination, too. I'd go for it.

Mrsknackered · 17/09/2017 17:34

I LOVE it and it's one of my 2 girls names for future use

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 17/09/2017 17:37

I know a grown up one but she spells it Honoure which I think is very pretty.

MammieBear · 17/09/2017 17:42

It's a "Cool" name that I think alot of boys would love, you might like Hunter as well.

Liadain · 17/09/2017 17:47

There's a famous character written by an Irish author - Ross O'Carroll Kelly is the character. He's a caricature of rich (and dim in his case!) South Dublin parents. Honor is his spoilt, bullying little weapon of a daughter.

I can't imagine that people outside Ireland know of Ross, but that's all I can think of when I hear the name.

WhyOhWine · 17/09/2017 17:51

I know a little honor who gets called honey sometmes, which makes more sense when you see the names written down than when you say them!
