I know someone with wyatt as a surname, which puts me off it as a forename.

American feel to it, cowboyish, bit redneck. Similar to Cody or Wayne.

Why on earth would I lie? I'm American and the name is more common there or at least it seems to be.

Wyatt is one of those surnames turned first name, I'm personally not into that name trend but I can't say nothing bad about it. It just sounds so American!

I know 2. The older is shortened to why-why. The younger to why.

I like it. It has a vintage old man American feel to it. Like Silas. We're living in California and it's not uncommon. (Lots of kids surf suburbanronda, outside of suburban middle england).

I was just surprised by the coincidence of a poster appearing who knew four Wyatts, three of whom surf, just at point when evidence was needed to back up the claim that it's a "surfer dude" name.
