What do people think of the name Nina? What kind of image does in conjure?

And if we love Nina what other names should we consider (girls and boys as we are getting nowhere with boys and only agree on Nina for a girl).

Lovely name. Very popular in Scandinavia - already have one in my family otherwise it would be on My favourite name shortlist.

I had a great friend at school (80's) called Nina. I've always liked it and never hear it these days.

FlipperSkipper · 15/09/2017 07:48

Nina was our name if our baby had been a girl. Good choice I think!

I know a Nina. I like it. It's different but still sensible and classic.

MammieBear · 15/09/2017 08:18

A lovely name with some good connotations attached to it.

Shashuka · 15/09/2017 08:18

Yes I love that everyone knows the name yet it's unusual. Ranked 203 last year in the UK. I also like that it's used in many different countries.

To me it conjures images of a squishy baby... mine! Great name Grin

I liked it because it didn't conjure a particular kind of person to me, whereas most girls names do. I thought it was quite a nice blank slate for dd to really make her own.

I am glad it's getting such positive responses. I thought people might say it's dated. My MiL said "but that like calling a baby Tina, nobody would do that nowadays." I don't associate Nina with Tina at all so I was a bit taken aback.

Of the other names suggested I really like Ezra for a boy. I like Jude but DH hates it.

I also like Anya for a girl.

Dd had a friend Nina-Jay. .
Lovely. .
Wanted it for dd as she was my 9th dc and it means 9!!

MaroonPencil · 15/09/2017 09:54

It is a pretty name. I know a little Nina and always have to stop myself saying brightly "Hi, Niiina!" in a Scottish accent (Nina and the Neurons). It also makes me think of werewolves because there was a werewolf called Nina in both Buffy (or maybe Angel) and Being Human, but I am pretty sure that is just me.

Aebj · 15/09/2017 09:58

I like it but that's because the Nina I meet is lovely and so is her mum. Her mum called her Nina as she thought it couldn't be shortened to anything ( it can't !) but she got lots of Nina Nina like for a police car

17caterpillars1mouse · 15/09/2017 10:08

I'm not the biggest fan but I think it's because I associated it with the only one I know who is a women in her 40s who is incredibly spoilt and high maintenance.

I LOVE Nina, it is a beautiful name. And I like it despite knowing a very unpleasant Neena at primary school, and usually that puts me off names, but not this one! Plus your spelling is much nicer
