Can't decide on middle name

I am half South American my daughter is Sofia Melina . Melina is a shortened version of my grandmothers name as I wanted her to have a connection to my side of the family .

I had our little boy last week and we are calling him Gabriel ...I like Gabriel Michael . Michael after his dad but hubby wants Gabriel Frederic, Fred after his dad 😩 I'm not that keen and apparently there has always been a Frederic in his family ..

I picked both our babies names so want to meet hubby half way. ... does Gabriel Frederic sound ok ? X

Michael is better.

You should be choosing names you both like, not just agreeing on an okay one if you don't really like it. I wouldn't name the baby after either if one in your situation.

Second names dont really matter. If you got a family name first time it seems fair enough to have a name from his side now. Frederic sort of matches Melina l think so why not. All lovely names and if dh has an opportunity to name ds after hid dad and turns it down thats fine.

I prefer Frederic tbh, plus you did name your daughter after your side of the family so it's only fair he gets to pick from his this time.

I find Gabriel Michael a) a bit repetitive on the -el endings and b) too many archangels for one name.

FYI - I WANT our baby boy to have a middle name connected to my husbands side of our family .

I also chose our babies names as my husband liked and agreed with the names I suggested in the first instance as he hadn't thought of any at all lol .

I do like Frederic and I like that it's a tradition that we can uphold ..just wondering if it sounds good with Gabriel x

I think Frederic is better. Michael sounds too matchy matchy with Gabriel and less like the name of your son.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 13/09/2017 07:29

I think Gabriel Frederic sounds great. Agree that Gabriel Michael is too samey ending-wise and too archangel-ish.

savagehk · 13/09/2017 07:34

Both sound fine, what about using both? Gabriel Frederic Michael? (Not sure how that works with your surname)

MammieBear · 13/09/2017 07:38

Use both if you like them or I'd say Michael.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/09/2017 08:43

Gabriel Michael is nicer, but Gabriel Frederick goes better. Although if I'm honest neither of them flow perfectly with Gabriel. If I'm honest.
I know its not on your list, but Gabriel
Alexander came to my mind
CongratulationsFlowers

Frederic/k obviously - it's your son's Dad's turn to choose. Sounds better, too. Very distinguished.

Liadain · 13/09/2017 17:33

Frederic. It sounds nice with Gabriel and I think that balances things out - now both sides of the family have a name connection.

I love Gabriel Frederic! Gorgeous name! Congratulations! X
