I would really like to hear your opinions on the name. We just found out it's a baby girl, so we are discussing and vetoing names that we like/dislike.

We both like the name but would like to hear your opinions 😁. Thank you! x

I love Megan, Mirren, Michaela

MynewnameisKy · 11/09/2017 00:13

I like it but I think it might increase hugely in popularity if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get married.

honeyroar · 11/09/2017 00:13

Ive always loved that name since The Thorn Birds. If I'd have had a girl she'd have been a Meg.

geoff409 · 11/09/2017 00:15

Megan is a lovely name x

CatchingBabies · 11/09/2017 00:16

I have a Megan so I obviously think it's lovely. I wouldn't be concerned about the family guy link, my Megan is now at an age where her peers are watching family guy and the link has never been mentioned once.

Llamacorn · 11/09/2017 00:17

I have a Megan - don't know any others in her school though but I do know a couple of older people with the name.
I always said I hated the nn Meg, but tbf I call her that more than anyone, it's cute and it does suit her.
She calls herself MooMoo though - started as family affectionately calling her Meggie Moo and unfortunately MooMoo stuck! (She's 8)

GrockleBocs · 11/09/2017 00:23

Ds would have been Megan if he'd been a girl.

pringlecat · 11/09/2017 01:30

FYI, Meg in Family Guy is the daughter who is completely unloved and unwanted by the whole family, and is the butt of many a joke. It's not a nice connotation.

However, I didn't think about the link until someone mentioned it. I think there are enough other Megs for the name to not be 'tainted', so to speak. I am showing my age, but the first TV Meg I thought of was Meg Thatcher from Due South! I don't think the name is ruined.

I am not a fan of "Mee-gan" but I do like "Meg-an".

Meggie Moo is a cute family NN, btw. :)

I have a Megan under 5, I love the name obviously. Not too many about anymore but it was a top 10 name for a number of years 15-20 years ago. Now it's 70th to 80th and has been going down each year since I had her with 700 or so Megans born each year. I can never work out why as I think it's a fab name and it doesn't end in the "ee" or "ay" sound which was one of my main girl name criteria.

ABCFamily · 11/09/2017 09:10

Megan was on our shortlist when I was pregnant. Love it! All the Megans I've met have been really nice too.

Sequence · 11/09/2017 09:46

I like it.

spiderlight · 11/09/2017 15:07

I love it. It was the name of our dearly beloved dog and I also know a fabulous little two-year-old girl called Megan who's mostly known as Meg.

Geegee4 · 11/09/2017 16:05

Great name, love the nickname Meg. My DSIL's name. Also, there is a neat girl power book called Meggie Moon which is cute...

grufallosfriend · 11/09/2017 16:08

I really dislike it. I find it harsh and unfeminine.

Coconutspongexo · 11/09/2017 16:09

This is the family guy connotation. I don't think it will matter for someone so young though I think it's mostly megs that are older now that will feel the brunt of it.

Megan is a very common name in Liverpool though so it's very blah to me.

I thinks it's a lovely name, both classic and feminine and not too common nowadays. I have a niece called Megan who is 17 and she hasn't encountered the family guy "Meg" gag, if she has, it was only once or twice and then it blew over. Think about it, I doubt Megan Fox or Meghan Markle have to deal with it either xx

MegRam · 11/09/2017 19:14

I'm a Megan (I mostly go by Meg, except at work) - I'm in my thirties and I've been through the Family Guy era, the Mystic Meg era, the Megatron era - you name it. BUT to this day, people compliment my name and I really like it too.

I am also, to this day, known as Meggie Moo to my family (Grin). It's stood me in good stead - I recommend it xx

Lemondrop99 · 11/09/2017 20:10

I think Megan is a nice name, but I only like Meh-gan. I really dislike the Mee-gan pronunciation.
