We've been set on a baby girl name for months and now I've heard the below name and I've fallen in love with it! I just wondered which spelling people preferred?

Surname starts with an M and the middle names are Ann Marie. Thanks!

Thaila looks better written down, you may even like Talitha has a lovely meaning.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 10/09/2017 08:55

Thalia.

Only1scoop · 10/09/2017 09:04

The Tally I know is

Thalia

strawberrypenguin · 10/09/2017 09:11

Thalia is the more traditional spelling I think. Lovely name

hawkmcqueen · 10/09/2017 09:30

I think Thalia is the muse of poetry or something without googling and then I see Talia as more of a shortening for Natalia. Love both but would pick Thalia.

littlecabbages · 10/09/2017 09:59

A friend of mine named her daughter this, it's SUCH a beautiful name but (imo) she ruined it by spelling it Taliia.
When I see it written down I want to pronounce it tuh-Leeeee-Yah Confused
Just in the name of 'being dfferent'

To answer your question- I prefer the Thalia spelling. It looks softer than Talia. Great choice of name!

GladAllOver · 10/09/2017 10:04

A chemist would probably avoid them since thallium is highly toxic.
Sorry, I know that's not helpful.

Sophronia · 10/09/2017 11:44

Thalia is beautiful.

Redpramlady · 10/09/2017 18:18

Beautiful name!
For me I pronounce it ta lee ah

Have I got this wrong?!?!

As in Thomas
we dont say tho mas do we?
It's strong t sound!

ohshiz · 10/09/2017 18:20

Tar - lee- a?
Or ta-lee-a?

Redpramlady · 10/09/2017 21:11

I'm thinking ta lee a?

welshweasel · 10/09/2017 21:12

I know a tar-lee-a and a Tay-Lee-a. Both spelt Talia.

Redpramlady · 10/09/2017 21:21

Both different o the way I thought it was pronounced 😂

NannyR · 10/09/2017 21:32

I know of a Thalia (in her 60's) whose name is pronounced thay-lia, almost like failure but with a th-. I don't know if that's common enough to cause confusion with the ta-lee-a pronunciation.
I agree with the PPs that Thalia looks nicer than Talia.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/09/2017 21:35

I know a Talia and prefer that spelling to Thalia.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 10/09/2017 21:35

She is early 30s.

grufallosfriend · 10/09/2017 21:37

Thalia = Thay-lia
Talia = Tar-lia

But I would happily be corrected

Lemondrop99 · 10/09/2017 21:55

I much prefer Talia

grufallosfriend · 10/09/2017 21:57

Me too. Talia looks clean and elegant.

Mrsknackered · 10/09/2017 22:52

Prefer Talia by a lot. Might just be me but I think 'Thalia' looks a bit OTT

RaininSummer · 10/09/2017 23:03

Prefer Talia as would be unsure of pronunciation for Thalia.

Floellabella · 11/09/2017 00:15

Thalia much nicer, classier. Talia looks a bit cheaper somehow. They would be pronounced the same.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 11/09/2017 08:47

"Talia looks a bit cheaper" Grin oh you are a card!

The Talia I know, earns around £250k. Nothing cheap about her.

Floellabella · 11/09/2017 09:46

Fair play to her!!
