What's wrong with it?!

When I said I was considering, I was asked 'do you want her to be bullied'...

I personally think it's lovely.

Awaiting plain white t's/Tom jones/Samson and Delilah/st Delilah who is apparently the saint for postitutes jokes.

It is lovely. (I'm still quietly singing Tom Jones though...)

ChocolateCrunch · 08/09/2017 13:29

I like it. Yes, I thought of the Tom Jones song, but I still like the name!

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 08/09/2017 13:31

My friend has a Delilah. I think it's sweet.

pear123 · 08/09/2017 13:33

I dont personally like the name, but not everyone will like the same name.
it does make me think or a women with a bad reputation, Like the name Jazebel.
I think it's cause of Delilah and Sampson, and Tom Jones.
But doubt kids of today would know anything about that so can't see a problem with it, if you really like it.

Grimmfebruary · 08/09/2017 13:34

I don't mind the Tom jones song all that much, it was the first thing I thought of too haha.

I just don't understand why it's apparently so horrible!

MinkowskisButterfly · 08/09/2017 13:37

I think it is a really pretty name. Tom Jones wasn't the first thing that came to mind for me, it was Plain White T's

Moregilmoregirls · 08/09/2017 13:40

I know a Delilah and I think it's pretty.

Wolfiefan · 08/09/2017 13:41

Why?
Why?
Why?
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Grin

DaisyDaisydoo · 08/09/2017 13:44

I have one! We get tonnes of compliments on it- as long as you don't mind/embrace the tom jones song go for it. It is really once in a blue moon someone mentions it though, 99%of the time we just get 'oh what a lovely/cool name'.

My Delilah loves the plain white t's song.

I couldn't care less what anyone else thought of it though, I have always absolutely loved it, that's how I knew it was the one. As Pear said, not everyone will love the same name, that's ok.

DaisyDaisydoo · 08/09/2017 13:45

Wolfie has a good point! My Delilah doesn't stop asking questions- perhaps that's the reason 😂

Grimmfebruary · 08/09/2017 14:03

Haha well I think it's lovely and your Delilah sounds gorgeous and inquisitive!

I know everyone will have different opinions, but I just thought 'do you want her to be bullied' was a bit extreme!

OP posts:
TheWeeWitch · 08/09/2017 14:04

She may not be bullied, as such, but she'll certainly have numerous encounters with idiots singing "why why why" at her. Not sure I'd do it to my child.

Wolfiefan · 08/09/2017 14:05

I do think it's lovely BTW!
If kids are nasty they will always find some non reason to bully someone. I do think that was a weird response. It's hardly a bizarre non name?!

grufallosfriend · 08/09/2017 14:12

I don't like it, but I don't think there's anything worth bullying. I just don't like the sound.

Sophronia · 08/09/2017 14:28

I think it's lovely!

daisypond · 08/09/2017 14:30

I really dislike it - purely down to the story. Seductress/temptress/lover of Samson, who betrayed him for money. I don't see why you'd want to name a child after her.

PandaCat · 08/09/2017 14:59

I really like Delilah!

BackforGood · 08/09/2017 17:00

Shucks, Wolfie beat me to it.
You just know that idiots like me would feel the need to sing "Why, Why, Why" every time she came in the room. I wouldn't want to inflict that on anyone.

FlippertyJibbet · 08/09/2017 17:12

There's a Delilah is my dc's class. I think it's a beautiful name but I do quite often find myself humming 'my, my, my Delilah' several hours after seeing her and wondering why why why.

BelindaBlinked · 08/09/2017 17:15

I wouldn't like it purely because I wouldn't want people singing the Tom Jones song at her. It's not a nice song, he kills her in it.

WildCherryBlossom · 08/09/2017 17:18

I think it's absolutely beautiful. I would have loved to use if for my DD but I thought my DH would constantly be singing the Tom Jones song at the poor child. I love the Plain White T's song btw

feral · 08/09/2017 17:23

I had a cat named Delilah.

Love the name.

However when you're thinking Tom Jones then it's a song about a bloke who thought nothing of killing his wife for cheating on him. Not a nice connotation really. We used to use it as an example of how violence against women has been normalised by pop culture when we delivered the Freedom Programme for victims of DV.

Grimmfebruary · 08/09/2017 17:24

Daisypond, I'm not religious at all so I'm not particularly bothered about fairy stories being a reason to put me off.

why why whyyyyy Delilah

OP posts:
daisypond · 08/09/2017 17:37

I'm not the least religious either, but culturally the stories still have resonance. Delilah, Jezebel, Judas, Herod, etc, don't have a good press throughout the aeons, whether you're religious or not.

PuppyMonkey · 08/09/2017 17:41

I know a little Delilah and she goes by Lilah - I like both.
