We have a shortlist of names but can't decide and would like opinions or suggestions please Grin

Shortlist is:

Jack (is this too common)
Cody (too American high school?)
Joey (sounds too babyish for an adult?)

TIA!

Cody x

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/09/2017 09:20

Jack is popular but is a lovely name
Cody is very Amrican and I only know girls called Cody
Joey is cute for a toddler (or a budgie) But Joseph gives more options and can use Joe as an adult, but I guess you could do that with Joey too.

James/Jamie
Brodie
Jesse
Jude
Cormac
Keir

Jack is nice. The overall popularity would stop me from using it though, which may be silly as I personally only know 3 (One baby and 2 twenty five year olds).

Joey is nice too. I love Joseph and Joe though, so personally would put Joseph on the birth certificate.

Cody - This would be my second choice. I only know one female Cody, aged 23, no males. However, the main character in the Rescuers 2 is a male Cody, so I can see it on a person of either sex.

Suggestions: -

Joel
Judd
Jonah

Jerome
Josiah
Josh

Arnie
Lennard
Milo

Ross
Lloyd
Harley

Thanks all - I hadn't heard of Cody being a female name but I guess it is unisex and I do typically like unisex names!

I don't know any children called Jack but ive read on all the baby lists that it's usually top 5 so there must be loads of them!

Joseph with Joey for short

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/09/2017 10:30

That's the thing PaperPiper, you could use the most popular name and still have your child be the only one in their class/friendship group, or choose something quite unusual and find that there are 3 of them in the class.

Incidentally I know both male and female Pipers so that might be an option? And there is a case in point - these 2 live a couple of streets apart and attend the same small (200 pupil) primary although I think they might be a year apart.

DS2 has a fairly unusual name and there are 4 in his high school but i've never heard them mention a Jack. There were 5 Tom/Thomases in scout troup of 24 at one point.

How about Cory?

grufallosfriend · 07/09/2017 11:06

Cody is great!

Jack is way too common, wasn't it THE number 1 name for a number of years recently?

Joey is way too cutesy for a grown man.

bridgetreilly · 07/09/2017 11:12

Jack is a popular name for a reason - it's a good, traditional boy's name which is easy to spell and pronounce. If you like it, use it.

I don't like Cody at all, tbh.

Joey is very cute for a baby, but I would think about giving him a grown-up name too:
Jonah
Josiah
Joseph
Joel
Jonathan
Jonas

Other names you might like:
Finn
Gus
Jude
Luke
Mick
Mack
Bill

Yes, it may be a good boys name, but it has still become very fashionable. Just like Mike or Steve did 30 years ago. And a very popular name makes it harder to be identified (I know so many adult Steves..!) and may sound dated as it falls out of fashion.

Sophronia · 07/09/2017 11:17

Definitely Jack. I think it's gradually becoming less popular than it was.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/09/2017 16:08

Jack for sure.

PinkFlamingo888 · 07/09/2017 19:12

I like Joey. I had a friend at school called Joe (Joseph I think) and we always called him Joey and it always suited him right through teens and into adulthood. He can always be a Joe if he prefers as he gets older. I personally would put Joseph on the birth certificate but that's up to you as I don't think Joey would limit him in anyway.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/09/2017 19:18

Jack is lovely, but it has been in the top ten for about 22 years now, so there are many many of them about.

Joey is sweet, and could easily just be Joe as an adult, which is also lovely.

Dislike Cody.

early30smum · 07/09/2017 20:07

Jack

MrsCharlieD · 09/09/2017 09:42

Cody I think

Jack is dull and overused

Joey I like but I would put Joseph on the birth certificate.
